Is that thing on top of two cars???
I was in the gator navy, done a few beach landings, but not in one of those.

They were meant to go across a 1/2 mile of water and have troops drive them on the beach and use them for a bit.
They were one way vehicles, not meant to be used for 60+ years.
And you can't buy parts. That's what the operator said in the lawsuit and news briefing.

Problem is, the seawater rusts everything on those things.
Brakes and wheel bearings aren't meant to be submerged in sea water.

Parts should be easy, most of it should be 1940's GM truck. You can buy those chassis for pennies from guys building street rods.

I dunno.
DUKW was a floating truck built on a Deuce and a Half chassis with dual rear axles.
Pretty sure the brakes, bearings, and axles are different than on a street rod.
Don't know why a street rodder would want all that extra weight.

What i meant was, I'm assuming they used GM big truck axles and such, may be wrong. Lots of street rod guys are using cabs of this era of trucks and scrapping the chassis, so there should be serviceable diffs, transmissions, engines ect, that are going to the scrapper.

Also i wouldnt be surprised if there is still a ton of cold war era surplus parts out there too in private collections.

Search for dukw parts on Google shows lots of listings.

No such thing as a 72 Studebaker Weasel but an anphibian Weasel would be slick.
