Three of our instructors said 1 in 5 rounds failed to fire. I stripped down both the MKIII and one MKIV and didn't see enough dirt to cause a firing pin malfunction. I'm seriously hoping there is a rational explanation for this because I bought a metric ton of this ammo for use in the ladies classes. I haven't yet. How did the rim strikes look?

Whatever was rustling the brush made a small scream and a gurgling noise, then went away. I saved the brass to compare with yours. Two of yours look like weak strikes... I am not familiar with limp-wristing on a 22 pistol. That happens?

Limp-wristing definitely happens when Rutilate is shooting, but it doesn't affect the operation of the firing pin . . . just cycling and ejection.

Those look a little harder hit than ours. Im confused. What did you shoot that out of?
I’m headed out on Sunday to run 100 rounds through each one. Limp wristing only really affects ejection.

It's an old Wards Model 87-sb87-ta , a rebranded Savage/Stevens Model 87. I don't remember comparing the different strikes of other 22s. What were those three cases that Steve posted shot from? If I have that gun I'll head out and listen for something else rustling around. Rutilate wrote: I’m headed out on Sunday to run 100 rounds through each one. They were shot from a Ruger MKIV, believe. The MKIII has a slightly sharper pin face. But I could be wrong. I was enjoying zero malfunctions with my ladies in the MKIII and Federal bulk ammo

Thanks for the reminder. We burned nearly 600 rounds through four pistols. The answer? It is the MKIV. MadPick has found some chatter online about the firing pins in the MKIV being problematic: light strikes and even broken pins.
Our tests confirmed that the MKIII was fine. We only had one round that truly failed to fire-we tried it seven times in all our guns. The dirty MKIV failed to fire 7/10 times Once cleaned it failed 1-2/10 times, all with light strikes.
I’ve ordered two new TANDEMKROSS titanium firing pins and hope to get them installed ASAP and test again.
In the meantime, the Federal ammo seemed to work fine and will be our go to for now.
