I decided to treat myself to some Chinese food, and I mean Chinese, not Teriyaki..... Good Chinese is hard to find out here....

I looked up the closest Chinese place that wasn't Panda Express, and found.....

New Peking Wok
32921 1st Ave. S, Federal Way, WA 98003
253.838.2688
www.newpekingwok.com

I called in, and ordered Moo Goo Gai Pan.. Which is commonly called 'mushroom chicken w/ vegetables' or something similar... They did not have 'Moo Goo Gai Pan' on the menu but knew what I meant and assured me they'd make it for me...

They didn't have egg drop soup....(ran out) but oh well...

I got there, and there was a guy there who had been going to this restaurant for 20 yrs, waiting for his carry out (everyone knew his name, and I asked him how the food was, whereupon he filled me in about his history, lol).

I was greeted by a very happy and outgoing woman who welcomed me like she knew me ... very inviting and open...I felt like grandma was inviting me in for a meal.....

She apologized for being out of egg drop soup, and suggested I try the hot and sour...I politely declined, but she insisted, and said that because I hadn't been there before, she'd give me the hot n sour for free...

It took only a couple mins for the food to be ready (as mentioned, I called beforehand)

First thing that surprised me....

Foam product containers with foam lids...no cheap plastic lids, actual sealed Styrofoam style..... They spend the extra money to make sure the food stays hot...That says a lot, IMO. I know it sounds stupid... But it's the small things that show they care..

The meal was $10.95 + tax, which is a reasonable price for my order... and I [i]never[i] tip carryout but I tipped her $2 because service was great.

So....even before I opened my Moo Goo Gai Pan... I could smell it... fresh chicken, beans, bamboo shoots, mushrooms..

Then I took a bite...

The chicken had great flavor, the mushrooms were cooked perfectly, as were the bamboo shoots.....
Not overcooked or watered down like I've gotten from so many other 'Chinese' places I'm used to...

The flavors married very well, with no flavor overpowering another, but each distinct piece had their own flavor that melted into one....each bite different from the last as the flavors melted together...

abso-fucking-lutely delicious....

Funny note....

I said 'Thank You' in Chinese, and her face lit up like a Christmas tree, she returned the phrase to thank me for coming in, and said she would see me tomorrow.. heh

Service was warm and welcoming and food was amazeballs...

YMMV

Dammit. I already ate, and now I'm hungry again.

I usually get mine spicy.... gives it a little extra kick... Moo Goo Gai Pan is otherwise usually fairly mild....

I ate it too fast to get a pic.

It's also probably the healthiest thing you'll find at a Chinese restaurant...
