This is a "review in progress," no conclusion yet. Here's my Mossberg MVP LR that I bought recently: On my recent prairie dog hunting trip with SAGELA, I did some shooting from one position. I then carried the rifle, slung over my shoulder, to another position about 600 yards away and across the big wide-open prairie. I carried the rifle with the bolt open. When I arrived at the second position . . . the bolt was gone. Of course, I walked back and forth over the area a number of times, but it was a very large area covered with grass and I just couldn't find the damn thing. I suspect that the bolt release button banged against something else (my holstered XD-S is my guess) as I was walking, and the bolt simply dropped out. DAMMIT! Today I called Mossberg to buy a new bolt. I talked to Alex, and she told me that the bolt is a restricted part (i.e., they can't send me one) because they need to check headspace, and the only way to get a bolt is to send the rifle to them. She suggested that I call Brownells, though, since they stock a lot of parts and aren't subject to the same restrictions. I called Brownells, but they only stock Mossberg shotgun parts, not rifle. So it was back to Mossberg, and Alex answered the phone again. She told me that the estimated cost to replace the bolt is $65, and she emailed me a FedEx shipping label for the gun. I boxed it up, and dropped it at FedEx today. The good news is that I'm shocked that they will ONLY charge me $65 to ship the gun both ways AND give me a brand-new bolt. It will be even better news if it actually ends up being that cheap . . . I'm a little skeptical. That's all for now. I'll update later. So far, so good.

I got a sneak preview of this story earlier today. Popped in to Sage's today to pick up some reloading stuff and SAGELA was there hanging out.
I bought a Mossberg Patriot on Wednesday (delayed, of course) in 300 Win Mag. Great deal. I hope it shoots straight and doesn't fall apart. Came with Vortex Crossfire II 3-9X40 mounted on it for $417. Pretty good deal...or I guess we'll see...

Oh man that sucks! Yeah, there's no way you're finding a black bolt out there unless you step on it. You had a backup rifle, yes?

Yes, I had my AR-15 with 24" bull barrel ... an awesome rifle that allowed me to deliver massive amounts of suppressed and suppressive fire, much to Larry's disgust. It's a heavy bitch to carry around, though!

I may well use my Stag next month - Steve and I developed 2 new ranches to shoot, one of which has a 320acre town, and SIX others on it. That promises multiple PDs on each mound to start. The ARs shine under those conditions, especially if you can plug the hole with the first shot. I don't know how I managed to work this area 3-4 times a year for several years without ever seeing a rattler when we see a couple each trip, now. Steve and I took two more last week.

I haven't heard a word from Mossberg. But . . . I just got a shipping notification from FedEx, I have a 13-pound package headed my way from Maverick Arms (aka Mossberg). Do you s'pose they gave me a new bolt at no charge?!! I guess we'll see on Wednesday!

I picked up the rifle from FedEx tonight . . . and it's a WIN! Here it is: Please note: 1) A bolt! 2) A free 10-round Pmag, perfect for the bench. There was no paperwork -- just a rifle in a box. Bottom line is this: - *I* lost the bolt. - Mossberg paid shipping for the rifle both ways, gave me the new bolt for free, and gave me a free magazine. I'm pretty damn impressed.
