Monday night, in my sleep......I broke a molar. It had a silver filling in the middle of it and I managed to break both sides away from the silver..........Hate tooth pain.......Called our local dental man. Jacy, otherwise known as DGM33 got me right in and we think I may save the tooth. The doctor is a great dentist, and this is coming from someone who has always feared the dentist. His straight forward attitude and the fact that he really cares and tries to not remove anything that he doesn't absolutely have to really put me at ease.
So needless to say I want to recommend Nelson Dentistry to any of you that have been putting it off. Jacy's staff is super helpful and always happy to see you. They helped me find awesome insurance that will help me afford the work that I need. The atmosphere of the team is Family, and they make you feel like an old family friend that they haven't seen in a while.

So did mine.

Unfortunately, so did most of my teeth...

If I want to, I can go right to sleep, in the middle of having my tooth drilled.

And have. When they didn't use enough pain killer stuff. Choice, ask for another set of shots, or go to sleep. Easier to just go to sleep, and then wake up when they are finished.

I have also pulled my own teeth, with a pair of needlenose vise grips.

Aw shucks, guys. Don't say too many nice things or they'll go to my head.

But honestly, I appreciate the kind words. Any of you who know Dan will also know he's not the type to waste a compliment. So it means a lot. And while there are plenty of sedation options available, I've found that the best long-term option is to build a relationship of trust with my patients. Once they know I have their best interests at heart and that I'm not going to hurt them, each appointment ends up being easier than the one before. Before you know it, it's no big deal at all going to the dentist.

And Jeff, I don't usually recommend DYI dentistry! In my experience, more often than not, at-home treatments end up making more work for me and more pain for you... Not always, but usually. Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.

I'll agree with that.

But I'll add that sometimes you does what you has to does, 'cause it's yer only option...

When I was in college I met this kid who was into Fords, too, and we would back yard "mechanic" any machine we found...but I digress - kinda - since many of our "fixes" included JB Weld...

Well this kid developed caries under an existing filling (did I phrase this correctly?) and was in some discomfort. Being a college kid with empty pockets, and an equal dearth of common sense amplified by the impatience of youth, said friend decided late one night that he couldn't wait for the dentist and would try to remedy the situation himself... in his garage!

So he, despite my warnings, he employed his mechanics brace and bits to relieve the tooth of some of the old filling (no brain, no pain, eh?) then packed the hole with JB Weld!

Thing is about JB Weld... it uses a filler and a catalyst which generates a little heat as it sets up... I wasn't there, but he reported to me that he did the Indian WHOOP! and dance around his garage for while (I presume, until it either set up or he managed to flush the cavity).

He did end up going to seek professional remediation of his self-inflicted injury.

3 of them still have all their teeth.

We let them lead the parade down main street every year...
