I may need a base for a retaining wall foundation built. About 20”x40’ and thick enough to support a wall 4’ high. The location is in my back yard and will be tough to get any heavy equipment into. Might possibly get a small backhoe into the area plus it’s on a hill. Pm me for pictures through email or text.

No need for a foundation for a 4’ rock or block wall.
Dig the footing down to suitable soil.
Fill with crushed gravel, compact it, good to go.
Put a perforated drain pipe behind the wall
Backfill with clean gravel
Done

If you are going to have a lot of load pushing the wall downhill, you can pour rectangular anchor blocks several feet uphill of the wall, with rebar running out of the anchors and into your wall forms. Then pour your wall. Remove forms and backfill between the anchors and the wall. Now the wall would have to drag the anchors and the backfill before it could move. This is probably not code, but it sure works!

I thought about putting a bunch of dead men anchors in place. They work pretty good!

I have a small kubota that might work for your trench if that gets you closer to your end goal.

I appreciate the offer, but probably the biggest piece of equipment I would trust on the hill would be a tiller.
