I'm sitting on some Montana gold nugget but do not know the purity. Anyone have experience with dealers/appraisers west of the mountains?

When I was over that way, I used Northwest Gold and Diamond. Technically in Renton, but down the street from IKEA so it's kind of at that intersection of Renton, Kent, and Tukwila.

I think most pawn shops can do scratch/ acid tests to determine KT/purity. also seen some with the gun. I know Alaska is usually about 22kt or better and usually the cream of the crop. I wanna say the rest of the US was 18-20kt at the most but obviously varies from piece to piece

I believe Porcello Jewelers in Bellevue can accurately test for purity with the GIA acid test. They may be able to xray it too unsure.

Thanks all, great advice and suggestions. I followed hkcavalier's advice and contacted http://www.nwgoldanddiamond.com/

Great information, great experience, and Mark seems like a really decent guy. Plus, he had some good suggestions for my construction project!

Sounds like the OP has already offloaded his nuggets.... but I thought I'd throw this up here for anyone else.....

These guys have onsite assay capabilities for weird mixes or unknown purity precious metals.....
http://www.paciron.com/precious-metals/

Unfortunately, they only pay ~80% of spot, but it gets you out of the assay fees and turnaround time. They'll pay 90% if you set up an account with them.

I've got some platinum and palladium I need to offload and these guys seem like the only ones that can deal with it on the 'spot'.

Called into NW G&D to see what their rates are, but they lack onsite assays.
