I have been applying and applying, trying to get on with the state, but I give up! I got laid off back in March and need to find something soon. Anybody know of any decent jobs with reasonable pay around Olympia or within a reasonable commute (Tacoma - Centralia)?
I most recently have over 12 years of IT experience working in Bellevue for a software company and an Associates degree in Technology, but also have experience in construction, manufacturing, sales and am a quick learner.
Thanks, Jim

Many of the IT related jobs around Olympia have been state jobs and I have never heard a peep from them while I was looking, and were for drastically lower pay. More jobs towards Tacoma and majority around Seattle-Bellevue. Look on indeed, dice, monster, USAjobs, etc. Have a good resume. Might try Joint Base Lewis McCord. Going south, more jobs toward Portland although you have to pay state income in Oregon. I know people who have tried to get state and federal jobs but never had the secret decoder ring to get in. I did interview for a job in Tacoma, there are some IT related ones, some gaming related but other web based.

Check all the job listings on all the local hospital websites. I know they are usually growing their IT departments.

It seems like the rage in IT work right now with the state, isn't actually IT work. If you're up to speed on PeopleSoft, nearly every agency is hiring functional analysts and admins. There is also a lot of private sector crossover on that platform. I've a buddy that does PeopleSoft for Costco as well.
Base pay at the state for a PeopleSoft functional analyst is about $80k/yr, with all those taxpayer funded benefits. Not a bad living in Olympia.
