I am going to be taking Mr. Corpsman's car to a shop sometime later this week, probably Friday or Saturday
The car is a 2002 VW Passat, going from Spanaway to Kent so nothing heavy or long distance.
I'm in Bonney Lake so something local would be great, I can pick it up and bring it back to you as soon as we're done with what we need to do.
I'm going to be paying for the car repairs out of my pocket so if I don't have to rent a trailer from Uhaul that would be more money we can put into the car.
He's on a "no money" budget so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a tow dolly that's a bit small. Barely fit a 2006 Honda Accord.

I can get you exact measurements if still needed.

How hard is it to get the VW running? Another option may be to use AAA or your insurance to tow it.

after prolonged feet-dragging and some car market browsing i stumbled upon a decent condition 1980's MB 300SD and remember Mr. Corpsman speaking fondly of those so i've decided to just get it instead of fixing the Passat which will no doubt break down again soon.
so we're going to drive out to check out the MB tomorrow and hopefully drive her home :thumbsup2:

Brings back memories. This was my dad's first Mercedes (of 3).

Had a gasser for years. Good car. Check out the rear subframe mounts if it’s ever been owned in a state with road salt.

Well, that was a hell of a drive to Spokane and back yesterday.
Before we took off i asked the seller "please dont start the car in the morning, i must see it start cold". He says "ok, no problem".
We roll up to the house and there are tire tracks in the snow right in front of the car. Sonofabitch!
"Did you drive the car today?"
"Yeah, i went to put fuel in it"
"Dude, i asked you not to start it until i get there!"
"Sorry..."

Motor mounts are shot, front crank seal is leaking, oil in the air cleaner.
Pass. Didn't even drive it.

Wow. I'd be pissed, and that's a giant warning flag right there. :angryfire:

Did you tell him to hold the frisbee while you inspected the car? I would have.

freaking guy's lame ass excuse for driving it was "well, i sent you a video of me starting it cold"
in the video he walks up to the car, unlocks it, starts it, runs for about 10 seconds and that's it.
i can't see if it smokes or not, aaand, he has his diesel Dodge truck running in the driveway next to it. :facepalm2:

hey, at least we had a nice road trip and i didn't get a speeding ticket

we've decided to go with a 2012 Grand Vitara i bought couple weeks back.
needs all front end body parts and paint. 82K miles on it. clean title. AWD
should be able to get it all done in under 5K
