Do you get them back after a release? Are they like Pigeons that return? I'm just curious how that works.

I have been doing g dove releases since 2004. My birds are capable of returning home from around 300 miles from Arlington Washington. I like to keep my travel distance to less then a hundred miles. Further then that I will try to give a reference to someone else who lives closer to the dove release site. The furthest dove release I have done is for my son & daughter in law twelve years ago back in Upstate New York when they got married. I rented birds from some one back there.
I did a twelve bird release in Eugene Oregon for a funeral and rented birds from that area for that release.

I have used my birds for a release in Aberdean - Cosmopolis area for a funeral. Lots of releases from Tumwater north to Bellingham. I have a twelve bird release for a college graduation in Lake Stevens on August 7th and a two bird release to do for a wedding real close to home up in the Cisco Heights are on September 18th.

I just lost one of my original birds I raised a couple of years ago from old age that I still used for shorter distance releases. Seventeen years old.
I just bought three long distance white race birds to a blend into my birds to add new blood into the gene pool.
I also bought a pair of pure black race birds to start a line of pure black birds for special releases.
I will buy a couple more pairs of black birds and get a flying kit of them for next years.

Prices start out at $225 for two birds.
Four birds $325
Twelve birds $450
Eighteen birds $650.
Then $1 a mile one way for distances over 25 miles from the loft.

It's been a lot of fun and got to see how people from different cultures use the doves for releases.

Should be fine, since they only allow slugs and 00 Buck or larger.

I think the birds could dodge those...

I've seen some of you guys shoot. I'd say the doves would be fine.

Just got the twelve birds set up for a college graduation release.
$450, that will pay for my grandsons airline ticket to go back to New York for small game hunting the last two weeks of October.

I’m in!

$6 a bird

I used to hunt doves on the mountains. Hard as hell to get them close. So cost wise a lot cheaper at $6
