Layman's terms - drop off your resume so we can talk to you about the opening and see if you might be a good fit

Resumes go in the round file when I’m hiring.

The round file is generally a trash can in my experience.

Lol, I always thought resumes and letters were worthless. You can write whatever you want and most can't be verified.

One of the many reasons HR is bad at hiring good people, they put a lot of weight on that crap.

I find them boring and fluffy. The resume writing trend is too wordy and online submission allows a flood to occur, which makes the competition greater which is good. Resumes don’t tell me anything about you as a person and most of the content will be found again in a application. So why waste my time and your time with submitting it twice? I tend to find out within a few minutes whether someone will do well or not with a face to face.

I agree, but these days hiring is all done online. I've had to apply online four times at Cabela's for basically the same job. Seasonal/Part Time/FSO/Full time Lead. Even though I was fully qualified for a civilian job on post when I retired my resume didn't have the "right words".
