About to buy a new trigger for my Colt LE6920 AR15. Trying to decide on trigger weight. 3lb? 4lb? 4.5lb? What's your preference? Planning on getting this Timney: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1146564523?pid=615192

What's the purpose of the gun? How do you use it?

They make these in flat and curved trigger, it was recommended to me by Steve Shields at Cerberus group. I really like the Flat Trigger version, very crisp and 3.5lb pull weight. A huge difference from a Milspec POS and affordable. https://aimsurplus.com/rise-armament-ra ... walk-pins/

No better feel/break/weight and value IMHO. Period. Including different weight springs. https://www.larue.com/category/parts-ac ... /triggers/

For a general purpose plinking rifle I would definitely go with a Rise Armament trigger (linked in a previous post) in the 4.5lb range. My preference, and really 3.5lbs vs 4.5lbs is negligible with a short take-up and clean break. I know my $30 PSA enhanced trigger is standard milspec ~6lbs, but it feels lighter than your standard milspec because the break is so much cleaner (IMO).

A mil-spec trigger ranges from 5.5 lbs-9.5 lbs, but the average is about 6.5 lbs and I've had them be as high as 12 lbs! When I discuss trigger weights with customers I usually recommend 3.5 lbs-4 lb for defensive/plinking/ shooting. With adrenaline and/or gloves that 3.5/4 lbs can get pulled quick.
In the case of AR use for varmint hunting I will advise as low as 2 1/2 lbs, but this is with the understanding that the shooting is static.
Trigger work is very user specific if you are a concrete contractor or a piano player you may what to take that into consideration. That being said if you work with your hands I go a little heavier, but its all user specific.
Also keep in mind that trigger adjustment/tuning is not a science basically you get what you get 3 3/4 or 4 1/4 sometimes thats why I try to recommend a range
