I got a brand new Ruger American Predator in 223 and out of the box it's had issues ejecting. The empty clears the chamber about half the time, and the other half it just flips around and I have to tip it out. I initially thought it might have been an issue with the extractor, so I called and got a new one from Ruger, and that didn't really improve things much. I've cleaned the rifle completely, made especially sure to clean the ejector and the bolt face, but it just will not reliably eject. I've tried several different brands of brass case ammo, and haven't seen any improvement. If I just work the bolt it ejects the un-fired cartridges 100% of the time, perfectly clearing the chamber and launching the cartridge several feet. I could send it in to Ruger to get it fixed but I'd really rather just fix it myself if possible?

If anyone has any input I'd really appreciate it, even if that input is just "send it in to Ruger."

Mine’s a little iffy with the ejection, also. I just deal with it.

Are you pulling the bolt back briskly? If you just ease it back, sometimes the case will just kind of fall off the extractor and land on top of the mag.

I'm very firm with the bolt and it's still iffy. That's interesting that you have the same issue, I wonder if this is just a known issue with these rifles

Is that a single claw extractor on that bolt or a double? I've been real leary of these new inexpensive bolt guns lately like what does the company skimp on them to make them so cheap? I've always wanted a controlled round feeding and extraction so I know the shell goes in to the chamber right. Not just some bolt pushing it home.

It's a single claw. I didn't really think about it too much before getting it, I wish I had done a little more research before getting a bolt gun like this. The only other bolt guns I have are rimfire (multiple) and Mosins, which have a much heftier extractor. Not really sure what to do with this one. Gonna call Ruger tomorrow morning and see what they say

One of the best actions I've ever used was the old Winchester Model 70 action. Took mauser's idea, added a more useful safety, and controlled round feeding with a very good trigger that didn't rely on any adjustable thingamabob. I wish a company still made that in the states. Think the closest I've seen was the Ruger Hawkeye action, but Ruger wants more money than their predator series especially if you have the "scout" type models.
