There are some days that go from outstanding to surprise perfection. Started the day off at the darington pit exercising my heavy iron boom sticks and handloads. The 1886 really seams to like 14.5grs of trailboss and the berrys 350gr plated bullet. The 46.5grs of imr4895 did ok in the m1 but I could tell the velocity was down compared to mil spec ball ammo. But on the way back home I stopped at the IGA for muchies and something to drink.... Ya when I seen the price it was a no brainer to get both bottles off the shelf.

^ Sounds like a good day! And those are some nice-looking rifles. I bet your shoulder appreciates that .45-70 Trail Boss load too.

Today I decided to take a perfectly good prairie dog rifle and fuck with it . . . can't resist a toy. I started with this, my Mossberg MVP-LR .223 with a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x scope. This things is a champ, super accurate and it takes AR mags: And then I swapped out the scope: That's an ATN X-Sight 4K Pro 5-20x, and that lump on the right side is the ATN ABL (Auxiliary Ballistic Laser) 1500. This is basically a computer; when you look into it, you see a computer screen. What the scope sees is displayed on that screen, but you aren't looking directly (optically) at your target. It has a night vision mode, which is cool but I don't expect to use much if at all. The attached rangefinder talks to the scope via bluetooth, and your ballistic profile(s) are in the scope, so in theory you can range your target, and then the reticle will automatically adjust as needed. Put the crosshairs on the target, adjust for wind if you need to, and pop. It also takes photos and videos, and it has "recoil activated video" so it will start recording when you shoot. (Actually a few seconds before you shoot.) In theory, between the photos, videos, and ranging capability, this should be a lot of fun for prairie-doggin'. We'll see. I still need to get it to the range.

I'll be most interested to see if the tech doo-dads take any of the fun out of shooting.
Also want to know about the quality of the night vision and how many clams you laid out to get it?

Hopefully the photo and video capability will add some fun to the game, though. jukk0u wrote: Also want to know about the quality of the night vision and how many clams you laid out to get it? I'm not a good judge of the NV, as it's not something I'm very familiar with. I played with it outside a little a few nights ago (just the scope, not the rifle haha), without an IR illuminator. The scope actually comes with a basic IR illuminator (a little infrared flashlight) that mounts to the side of it, but I didn't mount it or try it. Regular price for the scope is $800; I got an "Amazon Warehouse" one for $612. Mine had obviously been tried and returned, but it seems to work fine. https://smile.amazon.com/ATN-X-Sight-Sm ... 079K1797S/The 1500-meter rangefinder is $317: https://smile.amazon.com/theOpticGuru-A ... 07N1RS1PN/There's also a 1000-meter version that's slightly cheaper . . . but in my experience, at least where I use them, rangefinders never live up to their advertised range capability so I figured that maybe I'd get a little more usable distance from the 1500m version.

I used an upgraded illuminator and the "NV" performance was pretty good out to 200 meters. The stock illuminator was trash. There is a thread about it.

Went gun shopping yesterday here locally... Got to compare the HK45C Tactical with FNX 45... Have to say I prefer the FN overall... Though in the end I already have a 45 ACP suppressor host (Nighthawk 1911) so that can wait for awhile. Gonna be a month (or two or three) before my CGS Nautilus gets Form 4 approval anyways.
Wound up buying a used CZ 452 left hand bolt rifle yesterday in 22LR. Once it arrives, I'll mount up a Leupold 6.5-20 EFR scope that's been collecting dust for awhile, install new trigger spring kit, and set about slaying steel chickens at our nearest smallbore rifle silhouette match.
Used to shoot the match at Tacoma Sportsman's though let go of my old Browning T-Bolt left hand awhile ago (lousy trigger and no aftermarket triggers were available at the time). Looking forward to gearing up again for some local matches and didn't want to pony out the dollars for a left hand Anschutz (if any were even available online).
Will bide my time on the FNX till next Spring when we get some extra bonus money in hand.

I had a Gen I ATN scope. It seemed like a good idea, but every time I shot it shut off. Hopefully your newer version has the bugs worked out. Post up some pics/videos it wood be interesting. The NV capability would be nice out here for coyotes.

I shot five rounds of trap with usrifle and usrifle-jr. I got my ass beat as usual, but I still had a lot of fun! P.S. I brought a 20-gauge today so I'd have a ready-made excuse for getting beat. I'm not getting any better at this game, but I am getting smarter.
