Why do so many companies not recommend pinning the gas block

I tried getting a pin from aero precision and they said they don't recommend pinning their gas block and I've had a couple other companies say the same thing when I tried to track down a pin. Is this something to do with attorneys recommending this or is it just because it makes the barrel less accurate?

That's weird, Ballistic Advantage (that makes barrels for Aero Precision) includes pinned gas blocks for their higher end barrels.

I have one of their 18" SPR barrels that will shoot 1/3rd MOA with match grade ammo and it is pinned.

Literally ordered their 18" fluted SPR bbl yesterday. Added on the gas block with installing and pinning for me.

What other companies are you seeing day this?

It's odd that AP would say so, as Ballistic Advantage, a sister company that makes all of Aero's barrels, regularly pins gas blocks. Faxon also offers barrels with pinned blocks, and I wouldn't be surprised if BCM and Daniel Defense did as well. It's a pretty common, and often encouraged, method of securing a set screw gas block.

As others have said, this sentiment of not pinning blocks has not been my experience at all.

Have you ever knocked the pins out of the gas block on DD? That wasn't happening. Ground them out.

I’m guessing they don’t want someone else pinning their barrels, then trying to send it back for some reason (liability, accuracy, who knows). Just my guess.

Makes no sense. Pinning is ideal. My BA barrel came with GB/barrel drilled, and a pin, ready to go.

I just got an email from odin works saying the same exact thing they don't recommend pinning their gas blocks.

What style?

I mean of course I don't pin my home builds and the fasteners have never come loose, but yeah must be the barrel drilling part.

And yes I have used threaded clamp on style over the old pins holes and slots. No loss of accuracy or reliability for recreational shooting that I detected.

If it's not a pinned style gas block, then of course they don't recommend it. You'd need a drilling jig that matches that gas block, and another one for the barrel.

They're trying to keep people from doing bubba work on their products, and I don't blame them.
