So I purchased a couple thousand rounds of Egyptian surplus 9mm Luger from a member here. Unfortunately my complement of 9mm firearms (ruger pc carbine, ruger p89 and calico 100) cannot reliably fire this ammo I think due to the hard military primers?
Since I have a ton of it I figure it might be worth finding out what it was intended to be fired in and buying that. Anyone know what firearm from im guessing the 40s-60s the Egyptians might have been using that chambered 9mm?

Perhaps it was used in the Port Said 9mm SMG. An Egyptian built Swedish K. Had a saw-cut demilled kit that was imported by Ohio Ordnance. Seemed to be well made. Finally sold it, because it was too tempting to just weld ‘er up!

Are you saying you've tried shooting some and gotten light primer strikes, or is there some info on the packaging that leads you to believe it won't run in your guns?
Might be SMG ammo, might not. I'd find out everything I could about it based on info on cans/boxes and go from there.

If a Ruger P89 cannot reliably fire it then it is likely ammo intended for use in an open bolt SMG.
Possibly sell it to an SOT or an Oregon resident who has such a firearm to use it in? Or do finger exercises for a year and then put a 50 pound hammer spring in your P89?

I bought a bunch of Egyptian 9 years ago and it worked out to be inconsistent and overall really weak.

Both the Egyptians and Israelis used 9mm SMG ammo in their pistols during their conflicts. They used what they had and weren't worrying about burning out one of their "Beretta" Helwans (Egyptian-made Beretta 1951s) or anything else they were carrying. It's one reason buying a Helwan is so iffy (as opposed to an Italian-made 1951 or any of the older Israeli surplus guns.

Like everyone else said, it's probably designed for open bolt smg's. Sadly the AFT says they are too scary to own
