Provide care and treatment to soldiers suffering from PTSD or struggling financially?
Nah...! How can we further limit 2A rights for all?

first, never ask a barber if you need a haircut. second, you cannot prevent suicide, because you cannot have a control group. in order to show that a solution/prevention works, you'd have to have a group of guaranteed suicides, some of whom got the prevention, and survive, and some of whom got placebo, and did not survive. it should surprise no one that a snake oil salesman hired to study a problem concludes that the solution is snake oil.

After watching a few Shawn Ryan podcasts and hear about a friend's struggle after getting out of the military, it's no wonder combat veterans have a difficult time.
I never served, so my info is superficial at best.
You go into basic and get stripped down mentally and physically to become a soldier who follows orders, some of which will be against your best interest.
You go to combat areas where there's close quarters combat, and deadly risk just driving here and there. Enemies don't have uniforms, so anyone is a threat.
So after the war is over and you go home... that's it. In my opinion, the military dumps you out without re-training for civilian life. Of course, I could be totally wrong.

MikeyB Excellent post. While your assessment is far from complete (whose is?), you have made a clear and succinct assessment of some painful issues. One bit of truth brought out by VA supporters is that such conditions have mostly been the norm since the Army of Ur. The VA has improved, often resisting, however, the needs of vets would be better met by the open market. This has been demonstrated by the recent implementation of "community provider programs". It is a mild irony that said programs grew out of the scamdemic. However, and I suppose, of course, it is working, restrained largely by a labyrinth bureaucracy, that sees such programs as not in their interest.
