I was shooting a customers gun today. It’s topped with a newish Aimpoint enclosed red dot the Acro P1. On the 8” targets I was in the black at 10yds. That’s a big deal for me. Me and pistols lately have not been getting along with accuracy and I generally have to get better shooters to check my pistol work when it comes to sights.

So while we are talking about this new optic we also talked about Trijicon RMR sights and then I learned something I never knew. All these reflex sights I’ve been interested in have an emitter that shoots the dot on to the glass. The emitter is not enclosed! Water, mud, dirt, elk blood, anything can get on that and block or severely impact the light shinning.

Really I didn’t know they were designed this way.

Sooooooo......is there an alternative to these open red dots that make sense for handguns without making them significantly heavier?

How are you gonna get elk blood on your emitter? Oh yeah, I remember, Lady V is going to call one in and shoot it for you. Then getting the blood on your emitter will be up to you.

The aimpoint acro has a sealed emitter. Holosun is working on theirs as well.

For alternative tech, there is the see all sight but it looks pretty ghey.

The only enclosed red dot I've seen on a pistol was the Aimpoint Micro T-1.

If you’re getting blood on your RMR doesn’t that mean it’s already done it’s job?

Safariland makes holsters with a hood to protect the RMR

The newest RMR is the SRO from Trijicon. It’s enclosed and so has “fixed” this main issue.

There are several mud and water torture test on the “older” systems.

Is it truly an issue? For the common shooter? No
Is it worriesome for “gamers” and tacticool wannabes? Yes

But check out the SRO

Every time I recover an elk carcass, the blood gets on gear in places I wonder later on how it got there. And yeah...she better shoot one. I'm tired of trying to be the sole meat winner.

Not if it's your blood.

The SRO looks like a winner. Thank you.

Actually, I'm not seeing anything about the emitter being sealed. It appears to be just like any other reflex sight in that aspect.

Oops. Sorry. Got my sights confused.

Aimpoint ACTO P-1 is the sealed one you should look at.

I had the SRO in mind for something else.

You have your sights confused again... It's the acro. There is no acto.

Yes, the Acro P1 is the optic I initially started talking about in the original post.

Put in more time at the range so you don't have to rely on that crutch.

Open sights have been killing things for hundreds of years.
