I dissembled it. The screws came out easily, and went back in effortlessly. So that appears to be fixed. As you can see below, there is still a hole in it. Below is the initial communication to them. The email team and phone team understood the problem, not sure about the tech working on it.

I'd email them again and say the hole wasn't addressed.
Even if they say it's normal or acceptable, I'd want them to tell me that.

I bet this is pretty common on cast frames. Probably nothing to worry about. I'm sure that they would have addressed it while they had it apart. That hole is a really hard thing to just overlook.

You're probably right . . . but if I were to tell them about the hole, and they said send it in, I'd expect either that it be repaired, or explained. At least an explanation is in order.

I've submitted my question via their online form. I'll report back.

I recommend you put it right up their ass and demand a new frame.

What you do now is get on the ruger fan forum and post those pictures and your story. Ruger PR guys monitor that site and hopefully at the hint of an issue you will be contacted by someone other than the regular CS. Ruger has a reputation for ruggedness and reliability. If they are still on their game they will not want to have your story on the internet.

Well, I can believe that it's "normal" based on other replies in this thread, but it sure doesn't look like it was an intentional part of the design.
*shrug* If it all works, then maybe just call it good?

Tell you what. If you tried to sell that to me and said it only had 10 rounds through it and it was still new. I'd probably tell you to GFY.

The screw holes have been addressed.
The door opens and closes smoothly.
Whats the problem? Its just a thin spot in the casting. No material is needed there for strength. It CANT be seen when assembled and functioning.
They didn't ream/machine the pocket deep enough and the tight fit/friction was no caught by QC, but instead by you. The door while being used (tightly) wore its own clearance exposing a cavity in the casting. If they had machined it that deep the same pocket would have been exposed by the machining, instead of by the door lapping itself in.
I would bet if you took more SUPER HIGH RES pics like the one you posted of other parts of the INSIDE unfinished surfaces they would look horrible to. That close up even makes the finishes around the worn part look bad.
I dont see a future problem. Just my .02

I'm thinking I should just ignore it and call it good. I expect it'll still shoot/group fine. If they replace it, I bet the next will do the same thing.
