What with all the scammers around, when buying from the big auction site, for instance, will you buy from someone who only takes money orders?
I can understand using them when purchasing from individuals off of trusted gun forums (the Smith & Wesson forum to be specific -- which provides a bunch of info on those registered and is very aggressive weeding out the trash)...
But when buying from someone unknown, who doesn't have a LOT of purchases, will you take the chance?
I know the credit card ain't all that much, but I figure if someone goes to the trouble of registering with Visa or Amex they have a bit of credibility esp. when combined with a bunch of A ratings.
Just wonder'in what other folks think.

A lot of vendors are going away from credit cards. Most don't like the charge they end up paying a 3 to 4 % plus with all the credit cards reporting sales on guns it makes them very wary and i don't blame them.
I require postal money orders when i sell a item on line. It's always been easier to me.
But I'm shure others will chime in.

If it was via Gunbroker and the seller had good feedback, I would.
If it was totallynotascam.com, I would not.

While I've been burned by a seller who accepted a postal money order, { the wog hawking surplus items on this site } I still use them for buying and selling. As a seller, I only accept them for payment, unless I know the buyer well enough to trust them. I've been burned through electronic funds transfer, bank cheques, bank cards, ect...
Do your own research on the seller before sending payment.

I have three forms of payment that I will accept, none or electronic. US PS MO, personal check that must clear bank first and of course, cash. That’s it.
If I know the person I’ll even send it before payment is sent.

It's 2022, if you haven't figured out how to accept a credit card for online sales, we ain't doin' business.

One of the previous posts in this thread touched on our gun community moving away from using credit cards. Cash is king when dealing locally but for online sales I've made an effort to stop using CC's. It's a little more of a hassle with a money order, bank check, etc. but if that's what I gotta do so be it. And if a company doesn't accept that form of payment then I feel the exact same as you.....We ain't doing business and they can go pound sand!

I've even accepted a personal check from upstanding active members here on deals when they were to far away to drive....cuz F*** PayPal

^This. I buy on Gunbroker a lot, and I tend to avoid bidding on any auctions where the seller only accepts money orders. But if it's something I can't live without, and/or the price is too good to pass up, I won't let it stand in the way of placing a winning bid - provided the seller's feedback is stellar. And, truth be told, I'm actually more concerned about USPS losing the envelope with my money order in it than I am getting ripped off by the seller.

I buy on only reputable sites. But every now and then someone will represent an item as great original factory condition. But in reality, the owner has painted the sights with fingernail polish and installed grip screws that interfere with the magazine but they lie about it at the meet and just say “those are a little loose.”

Sound familiar? Daewoo dp51.

Roll the dice, right? Sometimes even verified people are scumbags

I've bought and sold many 100s of thousands of dollars worth of crap on the internet. Put myself through college doing it in fact...... Only time I've ever been taken was through a means of payment I had no recourse. Cost me more than I want to admit and was with a vendor I had done business with before. Never again. I'll go without before sending a money order or wire to anyone. Ymmv

Yes sir, you have absolutely no fucking protection sending cash or cash equivalents. If I don't have goods in my hands, you're not getting cash or cash equivalents. I don't give a fuck if you ain't down with electronic shit or got a beef with paypal, venmo, whatever. To the shops still advertising cash prices, go fuck yourselves with whatever inventory you can't sell.
