School time on the M1 30 cal

Sat Feb 02, 2013 8:51 am

Can we have a class, dialog, study time, whatever on the M1 30's?

I wouldn't know a $200 rifle from a $2000 rifle even if they were side by side.

I would like to get one to go with my AMT30 pistol but don't know jack about them.

:patriot:

First, it would be good to know which M-1. An M-1 Garand, an M-1 Carbine, or an M-1A, are all 30 caliber rifles.

The Garand is the WWII main battle rifle and shoots the 30-06 Springfield cartridge

The M-1 Carbine shoots specifically the M-1 Carbine cartridge which is smaller than the 30-06.

The M-1A is the M-14 "Look-alike" which shoots the .308 Winchester or 7.62X51 Nato cartridge.

Which did you have in mind as the above are all "30 cal" weapons.

I think he means the .30 Carbine. Same cal as his AMT.

200 dollar versions. But that is when these came out. Now you will pay 600-ish for them. The version I have, one of the first series of them used all the original left over military parts. I cant tell it from the Inland I have except the wood of the stock.

Now that's a good start.

I've seen a few M1 carbines at big 5 in covington, even recently. Think they were right around $600

The receiver maker will be stamped under the rear sight Eric if you look up under the back of it. when they were upgraded to new style sights it covered up some of the stamping.

Come and get it, mister!

And unlike when I've said that to others in recent weeks ... this time I mean it in a welcoming way.
