Treatment on the M1D "sniper" rifle by Garand Thumb on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VZnP4OqRxwThe attachment point is interesting. Suspect Bassett Machine's M14 mounts took inspiration from the "D" mount. Quick mount and dismount, specific torque requirement. Seems to me a more modern version with contemporary ring diameter or a picatinney rail would support the vastly superior scopes of today.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zibyvh8sw54Various common weapons and a weird Russian armor shield for personnel. Yet more evidence the Garand has great potential on the battlefield, in the hands of a competent rifleman.

Got a chance today to visit the cmp talladega marksmanship park. About 2hr drive from Atlanta. I last visited Anniston 8 yrs ago, visiting the cmp south store, hand picked my favorite m1 born on mar45, which will belong to my son one day.
The tmp just opened couple yrs ago, and it is a beautiful facility. They have closed the cmp south store temporarily and stocked the tmp store with rifles occasionally. There was about 40 to pick from today, all service grade, $850. All looks like good shooters, i didn’t see any with original barrel or interesting cartouches. I brought home a post war Garand with an almost brand new Var replacement barrel/stock. Considering servic grade has pretty much dried up last couple years, i’d say this outing was a success. I hope to return soon. Visiting Anniston is definitely a must for any Garand lovers, along with the Springfield Armory natl museum in MA.

I'd say that was a great trip! Finding 40 Service grades for 850 is amazing, i would have left with one too.

As discussed earlier, shortened garand barrels rechambered in .308 Have a 30-06 I want to convert to .308. There are some barrels intermittently available. My issue is that this rifle is, 1. glass bedded, 2. has a medium weight 30-06 barrel. I recognize finding a medium weight .308 Garand barrel may require a custom order. So, am asking all with nothing better to do to keep an eye peeled for such a barrel and/or a smith in WA who can build the barrel and match it to my rifle and stock. I expect re-bedding will be a good thing. Motives for doing this are a throat reading of 4+ and increasing difficulty finding good surplus ammo.
