Well if your rifle project doesn't work out, your barrel could always be used to support the entire Fremont bridge...

I think it turned out great....

7 twist, 26" straight profile HEAVY barrel.
223 ISSF 168 FB
223 Palma reamer optimized for 75 to 90 grain bullets.

Can't wait to shoot it in 15 hours...LOL

Fired 20 rounds today of 53gr "break in" ammo.
This 1-7 barrel is made for heavier bullets in the 75 to 90gr range.
This "break in" ammo was chronographing at 3208fps.
That puts the spin rate of these at 329,965 rpms....Just a LOT too fast for this bullet to maintain any real accuracy.

Still shoot a decent 10 shot group, even though that wasn't the real goal of today.

Now to the loading bench for some heavier bullet loads.....

Did sight-in with the oldest kiddo and her "new" Weatherby 7mm-08. Great rifle but the bolt throw is pretty stiff esp. compared to my Tikka or Ruger American. Both of those guns continue to be laser beams for me.

I shoot 5 shot groups, I shoot 10 shot groups and hell I even shot a 30 shot group from 500 yards.
It's all about what mood you're in and what you are trying to accomplish.

Wasn't really even paying attention to the shots. Just getting some copper in the new barrel.
I didn't even notice the group until I went down to retrieve the target.

More grip work (I have been away from home for a while --- projects stacked up!)

These were some Colt Python grips I got for cheap b/c some moron sanded off the checkering and damaged the medallions. Looks like the right panel soaked up some extra oil/palm grease too. I opted to re-sand, stain, poly coat, and replace the medallions. Should have measured a little better as they sit a little proud, but overall happy. Now to try them on an actual pistol!

Picked up a few goodies to split between myself and two buddies. Then helped assemble our buddies 1st AR... after a few screw ups like the one in the picture. We ended the evening with him depriming a few cases to begin his journey into reloading. If all goes well he'll be using them for sighting in the rifle on saturday.

The PDQ lever on my AR-9 SBR wasn't working because the non-standard outer contours of the Gibbz side-charging upper was preventing full upward travel of the bolt catch (the paddle was hitting the side of the upper receiver). So, I removed the PDQ lever from the lower, clamped it in a vise, filed the inner side of the paddle flat, and then hit the newly exposed steel with some cold blue. After re-installing, I now have a functioning ambi bolt catch. I'm stoked!

Team NightForce representing at the range today...
Shelby is the foundation of this group....
She, at her young age, has already shot a 10 round string at 500 yards that scored 100 with 7X...
Pretty damn impressive.

This young lady is an absolute pleasure to be around!!!
