Post subject:  FFL and Shipping Rifle Lower

Hey guys,

I have a question:

I have a rifle lower that is in Washington State located with my sister in my gun safe.
I'm stationed in Missouri.

*RIFLE LOWER IS IN MY NAME*

I know I'm going to have to go through an FFL...

Who local to Gig Harbor has the cheapest total cost to ship to an FFL?
I also read she can ship it directly to a FFL of my choice... if she does this, what does she need to do to do this? Who is preferred carrier? USPS? FEDEX?

Thanks guys for all your help.

is it a stripped rifle lower? if it is i would just package it up and send it post office or fedex. you don't need to be a ffl to send a rifle to a FFL. just be sure they are willing to accept from a non FFL.

She can ship it from a fedex/brown to the ffl in your area. Get with your ffl, and ask them what paperwork they want in the box then let them know when it will arrive.

Take it to USPS.

6. May I lawfully ship a firearm to myself in a different State?
Any person may ship a firearm to himself or herself in the care of another person in the State where he or she intends to hunt or engage in any other lawful activity. The package should be addressed to the owner “in the care of” the out-of-State resident. Upon reaching its destination, persons other than the owner must not open the package or take possession of the firearm.

Does she need to claim it as a firearm? And what does she ship it as? Next day air to?

. None of that is legal.

Your sister cannot legally go to the post office and mail a rifle to you in another state. You, yourself, would have to do that.

There is no such thing as "in your name." There is no state or federal registry for long guns or receivers... no federal registry at all in any form other than NFA. Whomever bought it originally is irrelevant. And since it's your sister, the background check through a dealer is exempted.

If you just left it in storage with her, then it's your gun and legally you need to come out here yourself and get it or ship it.

If you gave it to her before you left, then she can use any of the shipping methods already listed to send it to a dealer where you are.
