Going on road trip in late May:
Canyon de Chelly in Chinle, AZ
Monument Valley, UT
Las Vegas to visit family
Southern California to visit family
Sacramento to visit family & friends
Lake Tahoe for some late Spring skiing at Squaw Valley & Alpine Meadows

Anyhow thinking to heading to one of the full auto ranges in Sin City for a little trigger time while I'm there. Anyone have any experience with any of the ranges there?

I'm assuming these ranges all have an ample suppy of post-86 full auto dealer samples for shooting. Always happy to shoot MP5 as they are a lot of fun, would also like to try HK MP7 design, B&T APC9, M4, etc.

Go over to Henderson Nevada which is very close to Vegas. A bit less expensive than the Gun
Store in Vegas and there are a number of places to go.

The full auto places won't have a sample of each, like your list. You'll have to see each of their menus to see what they have and the cost. I've been to the Gun Store on Tropicana. Not impressed.

I preferred the Gun Garage on the other side of I-15 from Luxor.

I went to the Gun Store in Vegas once just to see what they had to offer. Sorry, not for me. You get to hand them a wad of money then they carry the F/A weapon you chose to the firing line where it's loaded. Then you get to hold it and pull the trigger, shooting a target that's on an extremely short range.

If you're going to try the F/A experience at least try an outdoor range with a little more to the "experience" than just "hosing a wall".

As I recall, the Gun Store had a feature called "Shoot the Wall" which meant you handed them somewhere around $500 (at the time) then you got to shoot every full auto weapon they had on the "Shoot the Wall" display. Something like 50 rounds per weapon.

For that kind of money I'd like to sit behind a tripod mounted M-2 or an M-60 and get four boxes of linked ammo for each. Then chew up some old cars or something.

I've been to Machine Guns Vegas, indoor, very clean, good staff and a mounted 1918!
Not cheap, you can get out the door for 100-150 but you won't be satisfied.
Then tried Battlefield, they pick you up in a humvee, indoor and outdoor ranges and I believe the offer a tank experience.
Oh, and they have a mini gun, bring a lot of cash.

Edit

I just pulled up thier web page, looks like they moved, didn't see the outdoor range.
But they do have the Abrams in the parking lot for some car crushing fun.

Thank you all for the pointers greatly appreciated. Took a look around online this evening and still reeling from the sticker shock. Around $400 bucks at most places buys a small belt for M249 and maybe a couple mags for M4, MP5, or AK47 depending on the package.

Got to thinking of alternatives and when it comes to Vegas found a climbing guide service that offers guided, all-day multi-pitch climbing for about the same amount I would spend on a couple belts/mags of full auto shooting. Been awhile since I've been tied into a hanging belay well off the deck. Might be the way to go. Climbing is at the excellent Red Rock Canyon climbing area

For Mike I dedicate the following video from the annual machine gun shoot in Wyandotte, OK (about a 12 hour drive from South Central Texas):

We've also been to the shoot in Albany and it's a great event. The girlfriend got to shoot M-16 and M249 and I had a ton of fun with MG42 and MP5. I'm reaching the same conclusion after looking at the Vegas prices online tonight. I was pretty stunned how expensive it is for what must amount to an hour or two of entertainment time.

I was at Battlefield Vegas about a year ago. Rented an RPD and ran some ammo through it. :thumbsup2:

Ron ,the owner, has some pretty awesome threads on arfcom about the longevity of firearms and wear and tear based on BFV's rental guns getting shot fairly "frequently". Made me stop in and check BFV out, it's not cheap but I only wanted to shoot the RPD so I got out cheaper than if I'd gone to a casino.

Somehow I doubt that a person who belongs to a firearms forum like WaGuns would be the target market for a Las Vegas F/A business. You guys all have access to F/A in many different ways (Albany's shoot is a fine example). But the tourist from Japan (or New Jersey) just doesn't have that option. Thus, prices are set for the market, which is the once-in-a-lifetime F/A shooter.

There's no way I would pay $500 for a 1 or 2 hour F/A session in Las Vegas.
