I love the history. Quote: BUT...It was given to me by a friends dad, who carried it as a B-17 pilot in WWII. It was his issue sidearm and flew numerous missions over Germany. He bought it thru the NRA (I believe) after the war was over. For $5...I had the purchase documentation for it but they were lost in a house fire in 1998. He was able to buy the same one that he carried? That is super cool.

Shear luck that the gun didn't go thru the house fire.

This thing rattles when you shake it and wouldn't hit a paper plate at 15 yds. BUT...It was given to me by a friends dad, who carried it as a B-17 pilot in WWII. In a survival situation or just showing off to my buddies I'll take this 100 year old surplus Colt 1911 over any modern 1911. https://imgur.com/ZLHszwihttps://imgur.com/cu1kvaYWhat a hunk of garbage! No widened ejection port, no skeleton hammer or trigger, no forward serrations.... Hammer bite is painful! I'll take it off your hands for $400, or else you should just throw it in the scrap pile. PS - I scored a similar one from the WWI era, made in 1917. Well worn is an understatement. Some pitting. Among my most historically valuable guns. Shoots like a dream. It would be among my last guns liquidated if I had to sell them all. Anyone on the fence on getting one of these CMP guns, this is a real treasure to get one of a very limited gun, that's 80-100 years old. The historical rich-ness just oozes from these 1911s. I wish I had the extra cash to order one. But the price is very fair for such a unique and limited piece of functional wartime history.

That is if I win the opportunity to purchase one of these pieces of history.

I dropped my paperwork in the mail last Thursday. Tomorrow is the last day for postmarks, and the paperwork requires a notary. If you’re on the fence, get it done. You can always say no later.

I got drawn to purchase, but am having a hard time deciding if I want to pony up the cash. Damn it!

Mailed money and never hard a peep, did you ever get any kind of confirmation? You should not have mailed a penny. Where did you see to do that? I sent in the packet, it was free. I was sent a number back in December, stating I was drawn. I was called a few days ago on the phone to pay.

Oops, meant so say that I mailed my package, but never got any confirmation that they received it.
