Hey guys,

Nephew turns 21 in June and I've been planning a build for him with some input from him here and there. Main thing is finding high quality components at a great price and sprinkle in a few cool things. Suggestions and recommendations wanted; anything from SHOT Show I should be looking at? Also, if you could help me look for any great deals it would be much appreciated.

On his birthday I would like to hand him a box of components so he and I can assemble it together.

His request:
  • Precision/DMR Build
  • Aero Precision parts (likes to support local)
  • Black with Black Furniture
  • Magpul stock and Grip

Here's what I have so far:

UPPER PARTS
  • Aero Precision Gen2 Upper Receiver w/ 15" Atlas S-One Mlok
  • Ballistic Advantage 18" 223 Wylde SPR Fluted SS Barrel Cerakoted FDE (by Savage Coatings)
  • Dead Air Muzzle Brake (will add him to the Trust so he will have access to a bunch of silencers)
  • Aero Precision Ntride BCG
  • Geissele Super Charging Handle (AXTS makes a Raptor CH re-branded for Aero Precision. May swap this out)
  • Aero Precision Ultralight 30mm SPR Scope Mount
  • SLR Adjustable Gas Block (Clamping) & Gas Tube

LOWER PARTS
  • Aero Precision M4E1 Stripped Lower Receiver
  • Geissele Hi-Speed National Match 2-Stage Trigger
  • Aero Precision Carbine Buffer Kit
  • Tubb SpeedLock Systems Flat Wire Buffer Spring AR-15
  • Magpul PRS Gen2 Stock Blk
  • MOE K2+ AR Grip Blk
  • CMC Lower Parts Kit w/o FCG
  • Phase 5 Extended Bolt Release V3
  • Odin Works Gen3 XMR3 Extended Magazine Release

MISCELLANEOUS PARTS
  • Athlon Argos BTR 8-34x56 FFP APMR MIL reticle
  • MidwayUSA AR Stoner Sniper Drag Bag Coyote Tan
  • (6) Magpul 30rd M3 Magazines Blk
  • Magpul MBUS Gen2 Front and Rear BUIS <-- FZRider http://waguns.org/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=87823
  • Magpul MLOK Polymer Rail Section
  • BCM MCMR MLOK Rail covers
  • Walker Game Ear Razor Slim Patriot FDE
  • Pro-shot Tactical Rod Kit Coyote Brown 223/5.56
  • Tacstar Brass Catcher

Still need to get:
  • Magpul MLOK Bipod
  • Sling

Hey uncle, long time no talk, how's life going??

Is this a rifle he's going to possibly carry long distances? If so I'd think of ditching the prs for a lighter adjustable stock. I'd pick up a larue barrel and trigger when they go on sale. The trigger goes down to 99 bucks often andnthe barrel is one accurate piece.

Never mind those parts were in yp ur already Have section

adding rail sections is going to cost a fortune and make it huge.

If you want rails I recommend just getting a quad rail ,cheaper overall

Uh, who are you? :wavey:

Mostly a bench gun as he enjoys shooting paper and steel so weight is not a concern.

Just need a short rail section for a bipod mount. Debating to skip the rail piece and picking up a KDG QD Mlok and mounting a bipod directly to it. This will give him a QD bipod and not have to leave a rail section attached. Otherwise, already have the handguard and will only need Mlok covers to look cool. Added a bipod to the list.

Yeah because 2 inch rails are so expensive...

He's only going to need 1 or 2

BTW - He's a great kid. Works two jobs and helps take care of his younger brothers. He's really looking forward to this and other than shopping for discounts, quality is #1. I want him to have the best without breaking the bank.

What scope are you thinking? It's hard to beat the primary arms ffp for 300, it will do him just fine unlit he wants to spend 1k+ on a scope

I have two Athlon Argos BTR 8-34x56 FFP running on precision rimfire builds. I found them on sale for $349/each. Will more than likely go this route for him but in 6-24x. Another option is to go with a Viper Gen2 5-25x. I can get the Vortex military discount which will save me money but will be still over $500.

Put the AR15 together with my nephew on Saturday and had time left over to zero at 50yds. Rifle was low, adjusted 2.5mils up and then 0.5 mils right. Pretty lucky since we only mounted and leveled the scope. You can't see it but in the lower right hand corner (behind the bag) he even shot a fly.
