As long as you know what you're getting... The quality and thickness of the materials is always different.. I've had a few non-pelican pelican-style cases and while they were adequate, you could definitely tell where the corners were cut... I used to sell Pelican cases... A lot. The warranty was always a good selling point. 'Just keep the case away from your kids' (haha)... ???? 'The warranty covers everything except for bear attacks, shark attacks and...... children under 5'....(laugh) Most parents appreciated that joke, that Pelican lumped bears and sharks in with 4 year olds, in the amount of damage they can cause... I once bought 3 or 4 pelican cases from a guy, met him at a gunshow I was going to set up at. these were stripped of any foam, but were solid and had their rubber rings still.
I have put ammo in them, guns, and all kinds of stuff. They are great having them.
If these are half as nice, then it would be a good deal?

These are fine, but the Pelican has a couple huge advantages. The pressure equalization valve on these is a screw valve. The Pelican is automatic.
The biggest difference is the strength of the material. The Apache is just plastic. The Pelican, and it's main competitors that cost the same are more of a fiber reinforce polymer that will not crack or break nearly as easily. I've seen Pelicans tossed off the backs of trucks without damage. I don't think the simple plastic used in these will hold up to the same abuse.
It's about buying the right product for your needs. Protection against small bumps, water, then these are fine. Extreme abuse, international travel with bases being thrown in and out the back of trucks and small planes, banging on rocks, then the Pelican wins. Most people don't need that much durability though.
It's like complaining about the cost of a colt M4 or M16/AR plastic hanguard because you can get an oly part that looks the same for so much less. Squeeze the oly or other handguard and you can snap it with your thumb and forefinger. You can't do the same with the Colt.

I was going to grab one when they were on sale and forgot. I checked them over pretty good and they seem like a great deal. I don't plan on throwing it off the roof of my house or dragging it behind my truck. I just want a good case to keep my items safe from banging together during transport.
Lot of hate on HF here. I buy a lot of stuff there, sandpaper, tape, paper masks, organizing stuffs, tarps, wire wheels/brushes, etc. I'm not going to fill up my toolbox with their hand tools and their power tools are not good for much, but the place does have a lot of good, value priced items that I will keep buying from them.

I bought one of these when they were on sale last week for $30. It's pretty nice and there's 3 different layers of the perforated foam. Havent set mine up yet. Pretty solid case for $30.

I own two, the small & medium sized. I did a couple tests with loading my old trusty Cannon 35mm camera in the medium & my EDC in the small one. I did throw them off the roof onto a grassy area, tossed them end over end for the first one. The second test was to submerge them under water in my rain runoff barrel for 5 minutes each. Narry a crack nor any leakage so these will work for what I need in a protective case.
The only thing that I would not trust is driving over it with a vehicle.
YMMV

The one thing I noticed that Pelican usually excels at and outshines most other brands of cases (not talking just HF like this post) is the Foam inserts.
Most cheaper brands use the pluck n pull foam as the main insert. While it is convenient to making a cavity for the item you plan to put in the case, that foam is not very durable. The foam that Pelican usually uses is more dense and durable, however you also have to literally cut/carve out the cavity so it is not as user friendly. That is the one factor were you get what you pay for. The pluck foam is very soft and I have seen it deform to the point that the item it is protecting ends up under it and into another cavity depending on what you are hauling. Just something to keep in mind.
