So thinking of building a new toy and I’m looking at either building in a 9mm (MP5 mags) or 7.62x39.
What’s everyone’s thoughts?

Just say no. Why no? Broken bolts. Go with 6.5 Grendel or 6.8 SPC. If you want to shoot a lot of either of those 2, you'll need to reload to save money. .60 to .90 cents a shot gets kinda old. 6.5 Grendel is loaded by Wolf in a steel case. Not too bad, you just have to hunt high and low for it. I have seenbit online at SGammo, but never locally.

The casehead diameter is the same between the two.

TwizDD wrote: Long range= 224 Valkyrie If you like buying barrels. Better off with the 6.8 SPC or for that matter just build an AR-10. The .224 Valkyrie presents the same issue as all the other "over-bore" cartridges. Lots of fire in the boiler, lots of speed, and lots of barrel erosion. Ask anyone with a 22-250 how they like the barrel life. Since opinions were requested I think the best round for the AR is .223/5.56. Magazines are built for that case/cartridge, all internal parts are designed to work with it, and all other calibers require compromise. As for Long Range, where I shoot long range you don't find many AR's. Lots of bolt actions though with barrels up to 30" long for the most part and calibers that use .308 bullets.

I have an AR9 Pistol and SBR. They are fun to shoot, accurate and you have more velocity with the longer barrel. Heavy bullets, heavy loads, great PDW weapon IMHO, much better than a 9mm standard pistol.

Just say no. Why no? Waste of money on parts and for what? If you want the hard hitting power of x39, go 300. Literally barrel swap. Rest of all that shit is like plug and play. If you want the cheapness of shooting x39, shoot steel case 223/556. If you want to fuck with finding a mag that works right and looks stupid, definitely go for x39. I made this mistake years ago. Don’t do it. Or do it, lol.
