So just to bring back some basics...
What is your choice for a basic defensive firearm? And Why?
Budget price $600
There are so many variables to this choice.
Budget, Use/intent, special situation, Skill/personal needs As for budget - how about for $1500, $3000, $5000
Budget - lets keep it simple. Just the cost of the firearm
Use/Intent - Self Defense
Special Situation - Is this the only firearm? Do you live in an apartment complex or large farm
Skill/personal needs - body strength, experience with firearms

Rifle caliber pistol. MPAP 92. AK pistol with a folding wrist brace. Don't leave home without it.

38spl snub - low maintenance, easy to carry anywhere, covers low strength users for loading, variety of ammo from hollowpoints to wadcutters for recoil sensitive users, easy manual of arms, works at short defensive distances (can run away at longer distances), has variety of frame sizes and weights.

Dang, almost identical to my PAP.
jukk0u, how did you attach the rail?
I answered rifle. But that has a lot to do with living in the country. Bears, tweakers, cougars, thieves...all might show up.

The rail attaches with four machine screws through the cover. http://stormwerkz.com/scope-mounts/yugo ... ope-mount/It is one of the weak links in my system. One loses the view through rear sight when the red dot optic is in place. So if that red dot goes down.... I really need to get a QD mount for the optic. EDIT: So I was poking around at the Stormworks site linked above and they have a new mount for the Fastfire and Vortex venom that you use instead of the rail section and allows co-witness of the irons... See, that's the problem with being a pioneer. We break all the hard ground and get all inve$ted in early generation parts and then the hiccups get worked out and cooler shite comes available http://stormwerkz.com/scope-mounts/yugo ... -fastfire/

I mean, mine is railed now with a TRS-25, but I didn't go the Stormwerkz route. I went the Magpul rail section + mill + tap + red Loc-Tite on the screws route.

cz p10c handgun, because if i knew when and where my "test" was, i'd just stay home. the best defensive firearm is the one you will actually practice with and actually carry with you the most. p10c + belt + iwb holster + spare mag + defense ammo all for ~$600

Correct answer: Whichever one is available. Be well versed in all of them, capabilities/limitations
I smashed the windshield of a couple of druggies stealing shit from Home Depot with a gallon of paint last week
Not my first choice in weapons but it's what I had in my right hand when they were driving towards me in the parking lot (my dorg was on leash in my left hand)

Damn.
SBR. The fit, the aim. 10mm AR.
Usually good for a couple mags before some stoppage. Keeps me on my toes.

$600? Buy a used Glock/whatever in 9mm and a good holster. Spend the rest on a couple extra magazines and a box of defensive ammo . Save up some more $ and get some cheap ammo to practice with. Oh! And get your CPL and take a basic class that focuses on carry, shooting basics and legal/moral issues.
