I think it was a M3 but I don't remember. Mine had a welded head and I had to drill it out. Took a few minutes and once it came out I took it to the local hardware and matched it up to a stainless piece that matched it.

Does anyone use Buds? They have a Gray pistol model for $770 and my LGS does the $25 transfer. So I could be into a new Scorpion for a whisker under $800. Seems like a solid deal. Any reason not to do it? The upgrades in this thread I like and will most definitely be doing, but over some time. Other than a blade brace, will do that immediately.

Buds did some pretty shady marketing a few years back that turned me off to them.

If I remember correctly, Bud’s will charge you more for using a credit card, so verify that. Also remember that you’ll be paying sales tax in both cases.

My LGS does not, as he only charges for his service of a transfer. All my previous purchases from Buds have been my purchase price plus the $25 transfer. With the wife being a banker, I do the E-check thing with them, and get the "cash" price. Usually takes an extra day or two, but worth saving the dough.

If your FFL isnt collecting sales tax on transfers from FFLs he's not going to be in business long when the WA DOR audits his books and he's short $20K in sales taxes he failed to collect. Transfers from individuals are sales tax exempt.

No doubt he has, but I believe the change requiring sales tax was a recent thing as part of 594, so maybe he is not aware and just doing it like he always has. Even good business owners do not know everything. This state is a festering leach sucking every cent they can out of everyone they can, don't let them drain him dry. Do him a favor and bring it up to him. Might cost you more, but it will also protect what sounds like a good FFL from getting kicked HARD down sometime down the road. We need all the good shops/FFL's we can get these days. I will tell you right now WA DOL is very much cracking the whip on all businesses both in and out of state for Taxes. A friend this year got hit with over $3000 in back sales taxes for product he shipped here from out of state, he said it was a less than pleasurable experience dealing with them on it. As for the Scorpion, BUY EET!! Join the cool kids.

curious of what people have found with the mags. Some say factory polymer feed lips break, other say the aftermarket metal feed lipped mags break too.

While we are talking about tax on transferred firearms, I'd like to point out what the state has to say. https://dor.wa.gov/sites/default/files/legacy/Docs/Pubs/SpecialNotices/sn_14_Firearms.pdf Quote: Does the buyer/transferee owe use tax if the in-state firearms dealer does not collect the tax?Yes. I-594 does not relieve the purchaser/transferee from the obligation to pay use tax. The purchaser/transferee receiving the firearm must pay use tax directly to the Department of Revenue as follows: • An unlicensed purchaser/transferee that does not have a tax reporting account with the Department must report and pay the tax by completing and filing a Consumer Use Tax Return. See the Department’s website at http://www.dor.wa.gov. • An unlicensed purchaser/transferee that has a tax reporting account must report and pay the use tax on their Excise Tax Return.

Also, found at Fastenal if you like black oxide coated steel. Remember, Shooters Element sez, "The high speed low drag button profile cuts .07 ounces off the weight of the gun, making you 10x the operator you thought you were."

And the metal feed lip ones seem better, but I have also seen a picture of one of those cracking at the base where the metal attaches. Given that these mags aren't too expensive, I don't worry about it all that much. I own about 10 of them, being a mix of PGS 30 rounders and CZ factory 30 rounders, with a couple of 20s. I have never had any issues with any of them.
