So google is full of products but I am looking for first hand references. I am looking to re organize my safe I have a "18" gun safe and it is pretty full with 8 rifles and 4 pistols ( I know weak numbers but I have to have room first) . What have you all done to help keep things from being piled on top of each other? Also lighting tips would be great. Thank you all in advance.

I use rifle rods. I think they maximize the space in my safe. for lighting, on the back side I used an older LED light strip that I had left from a prior project. For the front, I added this

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078S ... UTF8&psc=1

Its the same brand as the older kit I had, but has such big improvements, I'm thinking about replacing the older one.

YMMV

For lights I used a kit like this off fleabay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/5M-RGB-5050-Waterproof-LED-Strip-light-SMD-44-Key-Remote-12V-US-Power-Full-Kit/302383732527?epid=691533819&hash=item466779972f:g:67wAAOSwpINZaTDj&frcectupt=true

5 meters was enough to go all the way around the door opening and be doubled up on the side that has shelves. I think my safe is a 25 gun safe, it's 32" wide IIRC. I have to push a button on the remote to turn the lights on, you can get motion detectors too. There are a ton of different options on ebay

Build for capacity! I outgrew a 32 gun safe in 2015 and ordered a Cabela's Hells Canyon safe with 63 gun capacity. Now, I have outgrown THAT safe.

I bought one of those LED strip lighting kits with the variable controller so you can choose the light color. Of course, the fancy controller took a dump and I am down to white lights on all the time.

As for piling up, it helped me to organize from left to right, starting with shorter barrels. You end up with shotguns on the end this way. If you have a handgun shelf, put it good use, and/or check out any door mounted accessories your safe manufacturer may offer.

^^ Also available on the evil Amazon as well. That is what I used, there are youtube video's using that and hobby "t" pins to install the strips along the seams in the fireboard around the door opening so they light inward. Works VERY well. I put a motion sensor above the door so all I have to do is break the plane if the door has been open a while. Normally opening the safe door trips it when I open it. The parts are so cheap it make no sense to pay for "safe lighting kits" unless you are completely unwilling to install something yourself.

Handgun organization using slots or similar saves a lot of room.

One inexpensive organization item I found are the white poly coated wire dish drying racks at kitchen stores. They are only a couple dollars and they fit 6 or 8 pistols nicely.

Seems those make space usage more inefficient. Might be easier access but makes it so my safe holds less. What am I missing?

My three favorite things I have added, besides velcro backed lighting that uses rechargeable batteries...

Hyskore pistol rack
https://www.amazon.com/HYSKORE-Modular- ... way&sr=8-1

for mag storage, these hold 3 Glock/doublestack mags to the walls. I have probably 4 or more of these:
https://www.amazon.com/G-P-S-Hook-Unive ... ay&sr=8-20

Then I have some velcro-backed zipper pouches, which hold things, like one holds the family passports, one holds suppressor pistons, etc.

Pull out all of the interior in the safe. Everything. You don't need any of that junk. Take measurements of your guns height, width, and depth. Go to Lowes and buy some garage organization products that work with those dimensions. While you are there buy some thin lumber to form a frame for the garage organization products. Install and enjoy. If you have room left over some adjustable track shelving is helpful as are lights.

This is what I've been looking for lately, some sort of storage system for the door itself where I can store some of the handguns. Any suggestions are welcome.

I'm thinking one like this looks good, but don't know? I'd also like more handgun storage and less of the other random pockets.

Have any of you guys used these? They seem to fit what I'm looking for, but I don't know if they'll stay attached very well with handguns in them? https://www.amazon.com/Acorn-Pistol-Holsters-pack-Safe/dp/B004GZ96VO/ref=pd_bxgy_200_2/142-7813105-7507707?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B004GZ96VO&pd_rd_r=f7c71516-46f2-11e9-97b0-73c3e6ce26b1&pd_rd_w=6pcZk&pd_rd_wg=1cKDh&pf_rd_p=a2006322-0bc0-4db9-a08e-d168c18ce6f0&pf_rd_r=AXV6KSTVJG1VQTRXRD44&psc=1&refRID=AXV6KSTVJG1VQTRXRD44

RE the velcro pistol holders on the wall, I have one of those that I bought to test and it really doesn't want to stay with a full size Glock 21. I threw a mag in it and ignored it. maybe for a lightweight snubnose or G43 they would be OK.

I have something closer to the SPIKA thing linked above, but the top half of the door I setup with 3M velcro strips and the GPS mag holders. I have 3 of the mag holders filled with 9 Glock mags, then a Maxpedition velcro strip holster that is usually used in their backpacks (which I also commonly don't use because suppressor sights catch on it when trying to draw pistols out).

I replaced the door panel with a sheet of 5/8 densglass covered in velcro

https://www.mcmaster.com/hook-and-loop

I need to redo it though. The spray adhesive didn't stick to the densglass very well and is pulling off in places

right now I just use velcro one wrap to stick things to the door. I like those GPS pouches, will have to get some of those
