Is there reasons why a range wouldn't/couldn't allow you to use one?

Nowadays ... I would sure hope not. But who knows, there are probably some that are still behind the curve.

This thread was started a few years back, before suppressor usage was accepted and common in Washington.

I am VERY surprised that no one has posted Evergreen Sportsman's Club yet.

Quite possibly the most suppressor friendly range in WA!

Black Diamond Gun Club is now friendly towards suppressors after some convincing. Board has changed it's rules about them to be allowed. RO may just ask if you have your paperwork, doesn't need to see it, just wants to know if you have it...

:thumbsup2:

I'm concerned why it would take "convincing" at all . . . is there ANY reason that they wouldn't want a suppressor shot there? Are we going to have the same resistance to SBRs?

Re: Suppressor Friendly Ranges

The few main reasons the club was concerned about "allowing" them was the uncertainty of what the new law did not state. The club was concerned about what it's liability or risks were, like if a suppressor was left at the range or sharing a suppressor with other shooters. Once those issues were fully discussed openly with knowledgeable people that understood the law, then it was an easy decision to change the club policy to allow suppressors at the range. Now saying this, you must realize that these were not the only reasons for concern, there were a lot of questions from the club members about the law, the changes in the law (before to current), ownership, and that took some time to address that I did not detail here.
It was surprising to me how a passive device like a suppressor could be controversial, but it was with some of people who are one type of gun owners who do only one type of shooting. Washington has not been NFA friendly, it is a very misunderstood area of regulation for most firearms owners in this state. The lesson here; be patient and educate those that don't understand NFA regulations. We all need to stick together as firearms owners/enthusiasts...

With respect to SBR's, I don't think it is going to be much of an issue at all. The RO may only ask you if you if you have your paperwork with you just like the suppressor.

What I do want to leave here with is the impression that BDGC is a well organized club, has good board members, has friendly/knowledgeable RO's and is able to change with the improvements in Washington State laws for firearms owners. All clubs have struggles with change from time to time, this was one for BDGC, but it is no longer an issue because of rational folks at BDGC.

Yup. Even shut down the range so my son could try his .300 Blackout upper with a suppresser without having to listen to all the regular firing a while back. Come join us.

Umm, what? The rifle/pistol range was closed for you personally? Please explain further. You can PM me if that is preferable. Thank you.

Sure. The RO shut down the line for a few minutes so everyone could hear how quiet this thing was. Then it was back to normal. No biggie. Sorry I took so long replying to this.

Excellent! That might have been me. We love to see suppressors at ESC.

I would be very careful about shooting anything black rifle at Black Diamond Gun club. I use to shoot trap there and it was a good atmosphere for that, but if there ever was a range that deserved the title "FUDD Range", it would be Black Diamond.

A case in point. My gunsmith recently built a AR15 300blk SBR for a customer. He legally engraved his mfg. info. on the bottom lip of the mag well. The laser engraving met ATF standards by all measures. The customer legally took possession of the SBR once his Form 4 cleared. He took it to Black Diamond. Immediately, the range officer (RO) there demands to see the gun. Despite showing the proper paperwork, the RO says that the gun is not properly engraved. According to the RO, it has to be in large font and be visible in a place where he doesn't have to turn the gun upside down. So anywhere on the exterior sides or top would be legal. My gunsmith's customer was asked to leave the range and they threatened to turn him in to the ATF.

So be careful of that place!!!!

Almost all ranges allow them....easier to list those that don't and I know of none....But I may be wrong!
