So finally got my suppressor (TODAY).

Long awaited for. I applied Jan 8, 2013 and got it approved 9/28/13.

Not bad. The wait time was forecasted to be about 6 months when I applied. Then with the backlog it was kicked back to 6-9 months.

Now looking forward. I think the wait times are going to be HUGE!

1) no applications are being looked at with the Government shutdown
a) so all applications that in the process are just sitting
b) any new applications aren't even being opened - no one to open them so they are piling up

2) once the inspectors are back at work
a) HUGE Backlog
b) they are still processing the ones the left and now all the ones that are backlogged
c) new applications are piling on
d) no new inspectors to help with backlog

Talk about a truly bad situation... for us waiting for another "can"

Yes, now I kick myself for not just getting my other one at the same time. :frust:

So my application I just sent in last week... Hmmm... Who knows?

This is so depressing. I got my paperwork in a couple of weeks after you, so I'm sure it's sitting at the BATFE...waiting for the shutdown to be over.

Ugh.

AND from what I have heard is that the entire PNW region, (WA, OR, ID, MT?) has only 1 person that does them. Sandra Snook. Also, from talking with people at the ATF about this process when I called and checked my status, it's not her only job, she has other Taskings and this is just an "extra" task that she does.

My questions about this (and actually would apply to machine guns as well) is that with extensive wait times and no one processing the applications when does it become feasible for a court case that the NFA is violating your constitutional right to own and bear arms?

From what I understand suppressors are considered firearms by the NFA and you are now effectively prevented from owning one. If the NICS system had been shut down I believe a similar case would have quickly been made.

Also if there are only so many transferable machine guns in the US doesn't this prevent some citizens from owning and bearing arms (and violate their constitutional rights)?

Hey NRA, how about proposing eliminating suppressors form the NFA and using a NICS check to eliminate the backlog? I can dream can't I... :flag:

It is my understanding that they are only partially shut down, they are processing items they currently have but nothing new, so its gonna slow down cans submitted after 10-1 but that's all I know

I have been meaning to do it...but I just figured with my luck they are closed and it wasn't worth the call. If they are still open my stamp should be here any day now...if they are closed - I'll continue to wait...and wait...and wait...and wait, just as I've been doing for the last 9 months.

I'm sure they're still cashing checks tho.

I'm going to say that the over/under will be 12 months now.

I have no doubt the current wait is at least 12 months. It was approximately 8 - 10 months before the .gov shutdown. Plus - we've got that new rule about trusts working its way through the system, which I'm sure pushed more people to jump in.

Another guy posted in a different thread the wait times for his suppressors over the years (starting back to the early 2000s). The wait times have steadily gone up and I think that trend will continue.

My dad was telling me about the days his wait was approximately 40ish days. I wanted to uppercut him.

Heck my Thunder Beast 30BA just got it's serial number. Form 3 is going to take 3-4months then the Form 4 10-12months. It'll be well over a year before I see it.
