You may have read the title asking yourself, “What is MOAC”, as you prepare yourself for a new tab, opening Google to find out. Well, I’ll just tell you because Google will probably advise you poorly. MOAC is an acronym that was made up, by me, specifically for the new SilencerCo Hybrid, and it stands for; “Mother Of All Cans”.

Flash back to January of 2016. SHOT Show is rapidly approaching and SilencerCo is planning on debuting this “super suppressor” capable of shooting almost everything in your safe, and your friends safe, without even flinching. The WaGuns media team is frothing at the mouth about this and can’t wait for the NSSF Industry Day at the Range, just prior to SHOT. That day we got to shoot what the Hybrid was touted as being able to do, tame the .45-70, and it did.

Yep, it's true . . . the Hybrid really kicked some ass today.

I tried it on my Glock 41, which is a .45. First I shot the gun with my Octane 45, which is a nice suppressor but it still rang my ears a little. Then I switched to the Hybrid, and it was significantly quieter.

And of course, it really shined on the Marlin .45-70. It transformed that rifle from something that's painful to shoot to a rifle that's a pleasure to shoot.

Heh heh . . . there's one more important piece of information that needs to be shared.

The Hybrid has interchangeable end caps. It comes with a .46-caliber end cap, but you can also get them in .30-caliber and .22-caliber. The idea is that with a smaller hole in the end, it will be a little quieter.

We started out using the Hybrid on some 9mm guns. Then Dan decided to try it on his 5.56 AR, and I offered to let him borrow my .22-caliber endcap (from my Omega, uses the same parts). He put the .22 endcap on the Hybrid and shot it on the AR, and it worked great. I reminded him, "Make sure you swap the endcap before you use it on something else."

A little while later, Dan was using the Hybrid on the 9mm Scorpion. He fired about ten rounds, and we noticed that the sound was different -- you could actually hear the bullets WHIZZING downrange! Strange. I said, "Did you change the endcap?"

Well, here's what the inside of a .22 endcap looks like after getting ten 9mm rounds shot through it:



I figured the endcap would be totally screwed, and probably the suppressor too. But NO! You can see that the rounds splattered on the endcap; there were a lot of small lead pieces that fell out when we disassembled it. However, the endcap was still in near-perfect condition; I'm pretty sure that the hole is still the original size, and the endcap wasn't bowed out or misshapen at all.

As for the whizzing noise when shooting? I think it was because the extruded bullets were misshapen, and they were noisier than normal as they flew through the air.

We had a good laugh about it . . . well, after a few moments of panic, that is.

This is why I can't have nice things.

Thank god there wasn't a chonograph anywhere near you...

If only we had recorded the look on Dan's face when he realized he had the wrong cap on...he thought his new toy was toast on day 1!!

But seriously..the hybrid is incredible. I'll be purchasing one very soon....no need for a 223 can. It performed just as well or better than dedicated cans except for my gemtech outback II on a .22 rimfire. Very impressive!

"Supper suppressor" huh. Is that like a "puts food on the table" reference or is your iPhone just autocorrecting because it knows you think about food 23/6 and it is only trying to help?

If the try out offer is still good, I've only got a couple pieces left to order for my .308 build.

Wow...I can't believe the .22 cap survived being shot by 9MM - seems like the can is pretty damn durable.

I'm impressed. .380 to .22 at 1400 fps. MOASDs.

Maybe find an engineer who has specialty in dropping warm objects into cold water and set up a 600 rpm sizing service.

I'm an engineer. I drop warm objects into cold water every morning.

The bullets are actually 0.356" in diameter and weigh 147 grains, so they were traveling at approximately 1000 feet per second out of the Scorpion barrel. Mere milliseconds later, the inner 0.250" of the bullet was still traveling forward while the outer ring of thickness 0.0525" had slowed to zero feet per second.

The resulting energy transfer pushed Dan's head farther up his ass with every shot.

Wow....that is amazing it survived that with no damage. That is one tough Can!

Received my Hybrid in June and have used it on 5.56x42, 308Win and is currently dedicated to a 45ACP SBR until the Rugged Obsidian is freed. Once this happens the 458 Socom upper gets built and the Hybrid will be dedicated to it. I love the versatility.
