It's not a new concept. It's not a terribly difficult or expensive thing to make. Is it the lack of competition in the market? It seems like there is plenty competition. Is it the warranty behind the product? Are the prices just artificially inflated currently? What makes them so expensive?

Here's a TTAG article showing suppressors for .22cal, unregulated in New Zealand, sell for around $15 USD. http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2015/0 ... regulated/

Materials used. Time and work going into making the parts. The machines used to make the silencer. Building rent, paying employee's. The investment of the end user (tax stamp) they need to last for us becaof that.

So the US suppressor market is more of a "built for life" because of the $200 stamp vs. other markets being a disposable item?

Correct. Most of the cans in the UK are made from plasic. There's some that arebuilt a bit better but most of those are homemade.

Good info, but you're typing like you're drinking....

I would let it go, but I know you're not really a drinker, so I have to flip you grief... :thumbsup2:

I've been to New Zealand and have seen their silencers. They are really rough and disposable, rather than being a lifetime purchases. Since there is no personal attachment to them (its harder to buy a box of 22lr than a silencer. You have to verify your age to buy ammo but a silencer requires nothing but cash and a hand to pick it up), they build them to simply be under 140db and last a few hundred rounds. Baffles are rough cut, almost always aluminum (including rifles silencers up to 300 win mag), no special inserts (again, they are all aluminum including the threads), and as long as the rifle can hit rodents or a deer, no one cares if there is a POI shift there. Using and machining titanium and incolonel, fully welding cores, engineering baffle designs that have repeatable POI shifts, creating QD mounts and building them to last a lifetime is where the cost comes from. The warranty isn't actually much of the cost, as the majority of NFA owners are extremely careful with their investment and take great care of them, so they don't see a constant flow of problems or warranty claims from abuse or neglect (which is why almost every manufacturer gives that kind of warranty).
