Are you into military rifle shooting? Using iron sights? This might be more of an interest for you...

What is CMP?
Civilian Marksmanship Program

Quote:
Civilian Marksmanship Program is a bulls-eye target sport that is intended for US Service rifles and NRA match rifles. The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) replaced the Office of the Director of Civilian Marksmanship (ODCM) program ran by the Department of Defense.

CMP rules require a center-fire rifle with iron-sights and open bolt indicators NRA High Power Rifle Rules also apply. Shooters will need a rifle that holds at least 5 rounds and can be reloaded quickly.

Some Club M1 Garand rifles are available for club members to borrow, subject to these rules.

Club membership is not required. Parental permission is required for shooter younger that 18 years of age. Space is limited and juniors will have first priority. All shooters must have basic safe gun-handling skills. The entry fee for the workshop and match is $15.

Matches are generally held the fourth Saturdays of the month from March through July. Start time is 8:45 AM and matches usually last about 3 hours. The course of fire is 88 rounds at 100 yards.

Entry fees are $7 for members and $10 to non-members. Only club members can use club M1 rifles and purchase ammo from the club for the match ($12).

Civilian Marksmanship Sales
The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) is a U.S. government-chartered program that promotes firearms safety training and rifle practice for all qualified U.S. citizens with special emphasis on youth. Any U.S. citizen who is legally not prohibited from owning a firearm may purchase a military surplus rifle from the CMP, provided they are a member of a CMP affiliated club. The CMP operates through a network of affiliated shooting clubs and state associations that covers every state in the U.S. The clubs and associations offer firearms safety training and marksmanship courses as well as the opportunity for continued practice and competition.

I borrowed a friends AR and shot a CMP match a couple of months ago down at Capitol City Rifle and Pistol club in Littlerock. I had an absolute blast shooting it too. If you are thinking of giving it a try, the next match is May 22 and open to all. I think the match fee was $10.
