I got an email reply from DNR this morning. Looks like they have no intentions of ever opening it back up.

"Thank you for taking the time to contact us regarding use of the Woods Creek gravel pit. To clarify – the Woods Creek rock pit is currently closed to shooting. While the timber sale has been completed, the site is going to remain closed as we work to deal with issues of onsite pollutants being present and distributed in the landscape. The material comes from the use of the site from shooting, including lead explosive residue, chemical containers and various garbage that has dumped at the site. Since these activities seems to be continuing, we are still working on a solution. Additionally, the lack of safety in the use of the site by the public and the effect of the neighboring landowners is an on-going issue. There have been an injury and many near misses to users, our staff and the neighbors. We will continue to evaluate the status of this site while dealing with these concerns. Please let us know if you have any additional questions. Thank you again for contacting the DNR."

I wonder if a clean up would help sway their minds to keep it open? While I don't shoot there, I am close enough to take garbage out of there.

Not likely. It was a great place because of the proximity, but there were times it was crowded. The garbage issue is a huge one. The gate closed on the area outside Gold Bar, too, which had some great locations. People leaving their trash is just unacceptable.

If this keeps happening, might as well spend the weekend in Tri-Cities at the club there.
