Never shot there, but I might have mountain biked around it.. I think the mountain bikers called it "the gun range" on the mountain bike maps.. :-)

Anyway, as others have said, it looks/sounds legal.. But just in case, read through this:

WAC 332-52-145
Firearms and target shooting.

Hi guys...
quick question to keep this alive.
Whats the latest info on the Duvall Pit? Is it still open for use? I see the powerlines but I am curious as to the parking situation.
Can you get there with a normal (non 4x4) vehicle.
Any restrictions I need to be aware of? I want to go test my new steel target setup. Guess the little hike isn't bad-got a nice cart and can pull my stuff up there.

Anyone planning on going on Tuesday?

Thanks!

Pit is still open, although the garbage is accumulating so who knows how long it'll stay open. Parking is outside the gate, right off the main road. Just don't block the gate. Hang a Discover Pass, too. It's about 0.8 miles uphill to the pit. Not a bad walk at all, although lugging steel targets makes it more challenging. Just pack out your trash and try not to leave anything behind except your bullets.

@Guns4Liberty:
thanks for the heads up and info.
I couldn't make it down there but will try again next week. Hope the weather clears up.
I don't mind doing some cleanup but It aggravates me to hear that other gun owners al less responsible. More reason for the county to close the more places for public shooting!
This is nuts!!!

I'd be down to do a cleanup out there. If we can get permission to unlock the gate and drive in I can haul a bunch of stuff out in the truck.

Actually went out there today for some shooting. It was snowy so hard to tell how much stuff was on the ground but my buddy and I did picked up some trash and it looked pretty good as we left, a state trooper actually drove by (he was aware of the shooting spot) and gave us a hand picking stuff up. Most of the mess that was there on arrival was actually paint-balling equipment and some food wrappers. Nice spot I'd say but yeah you have to walk about 3/4 of a mile to get there.

Who is the gatekeeper to ask for permission?
I can and want to help too.
Let me know when...

went there today (3/31) and had a great time. we arrived at around 10 and there was no one there (strangely multiple cars and trucks parked by the gate though)

was an easy walk from the gate though we did not carry much.

Yea sometimes there is hikers. I have also multiple times ran into a bunch of paintballer's or airsofter's, they were all nice and its pretty comical when they ask if your gun is an airsfot :thumbsup2:

Hello all,
I have never been to the Duvall pit. Does anyone know if it is open or who I should call to find out. Is it suitable for large rifle shooting? any info or suggestions would be appreciated.

Was there Tues 11/13 and shot pistol with my dad. Looked like someone had done a clean up, certainly looked better than previous times. I picked up some brass while I was there to aid in the cleanup efforts (ok, really just self serving). Longest shot you can squeeze is at best ~75-85yds. I mostly shoot handguns, shotguns, and AR Pistols there. No point taking the 6.5 or 7mm...

Also, to reiterate, it is 3/4 mile walk in, so plan accordingly, ie you have to pack in gun(s), ammo, targets etc. There are some wood stakes you can staple targets to, although who knows how long they will last. I would recommend going super light the first time, see what it's like, then scale up once you have a grasp on the experience.

It's a steep grade the last 1/4 mile, but the path is a forest service rd so it's pretty easy.

On the up-side, the closure looks temporary. And it looks like they did some road maintenance for the logging trucks.
