("eastside" May 6th) Sultan Basin RD Shooting and Cleanup

I went up to Sultan Basin RD last weekend to do some shooting and see that the snow is starting to melt. I figured once the snow melts we should get a few people together to shoot and cleanup one or two of the pits after the road becomes gravel. Would anyone be interested in doing such a thing? I'd be happy to coordinate if there is interest.

When and Where will we be meeting?:
We will be meeting at the Sultan Park and Ride at 10:00am May 6th, with the intent to be at the location at 10:30AM. I have sent the specific location to roughly 20 of you. If I missed someone please reply to the thread!

Purpose:
Clean up one of the few legal shooting spots off Sultan Basin RD and to meet and enjoy shooting with fellow WAGunners. I have spoke with the DNR and this spot will get closed down soon due to all the trash left behind.

Benefit:
To instill stewardship across the shooting community, keep one of the last shooting pits near King county open, and potentially put hours towards a free Discover Pass.

Location:

The cleanup will take place a few miles up this red line. I will provide coordinate to all of those wishing to attend. Do NOT go up here by yourself. People have created shooting spots on land owned by logging companies and in no shooting zones. If you mistakenly end up in this area you could get your gear confiscated or prosecuted for trespassing.

welcomewgo I have never been there, but sounds like a worthwhile endeavor.
I will be watching for details.

Thanks USrifle. It's a nice place to shoot, but like all shooting spots it (unfortunately) has garbage.

In for sure.
First place in Washington I shot.
I haven't been for a while, I was told it was close to shooting.
Lemme know when.

Great, i'm glad there is interest here. There is still 8"-12" of snow in the pits, so it likely won't be for another month or two.

FYI I have sent mail to the Washington DNR to see if they will provide trash bags and disposal.

Sent you a PM.

For everyone else still waiting on the DNR to get back to me. If I don't get an email in the next few days I will start calling them.

Hey all,

The DNR got back to me to let me know they are looking into what assistance they can provide. Additionally, I was given the work number of the DNR enforcement officer that offered up some additional spots for us to shoot(and cleanup if needed) at. He said the one most in need of cleanup is off mile post 5 off Sultan Basin RD. If it doesn't get cleaned up he said it is going to get shut down. I have never shot at this spot because I didn't know you can shoot this close to town. I will go scout it out and take some pics for you gentlemen. FYI this spot does NOT have vehicle access and would require a 100 yard walk to the cleanup area. Would this preclude anyone from participating?

Perfect!

That makes 6 people here that are interested. Have another few at work that are interested so hopefully we can get 10+ people out there. It would be awesome to get a lot of people there to cut down on cleanup time!

I can bring a couple people to help clean.
I don't have any yard tools, but might be able to scrounge some up.
As for shooting.....?
I have some steel targets. I need to make a couple stands.

Thanks for doing this, matt_brownies!

Yes, definitely post up details when you have something scheduled with DNR, and hopefully we can get some hands out there to help. We've had good success in the past.
