Before I say anything I'd like to thank everyone who has talked to me about my misgivings to own a firearm, and CC in particular. You guys are awesome. :thumbsup2:

Ok, so I got her today. Mossberg 590 Shockwave in .410 (named "Shocky). This is the second firearm I've owned and first "shotgun." I'm going over the manual now. Michael at Armory Guru in Port Orchard was extremely informative about the gun, aiming, laws, etc. Recommend.

I plan on first shoot tomorrow after the game, to see how it handles. I have 50 rounds of target 9 shot and two sacrificial pumpkins that I've named "Inslee" and "Ferguson."

My 6mo kitten Fireball is teething, and yes she had to start chewing on the new Shockwave! First pic is her face when I said "Don't chew on the gun!" Second is her exact feelings about the locked up law:

Anyways, I'm really excited. I'll update tomorrow with how it shot.

I think that's gonna be FUN! :thumbsup2:

You'll be tempted to hold it up near your face so you can look down the barrel and use the "sights." Until you get a good feel for how much recoil it has, keep it far enough away that it won't whack you in the kisser.

And as always, wear safety glasses. Small birdshot can bounce off of hard surfaces like rocks.

But most importantly, post pics of the pumpkins after your test has been completed! :ROFLMAO:

Hahaha, for sure not holding it up to my face. It's going to take some practice shooting it low. The dealer, Michael, showed me the proper stance. Yep on the glasses (and hearing protection). And a big yep on the pumpkins!!! :wink05:

Be careful, have fun, and consider getting specific training for defending yourself with a shotgun. It takes a slightly different skillset to be efficient with a scattergun, and they can be easier to wrestle away from you if you aren't trained and prepared. But for now, enjoy, have fun!

So 30 rounds through Shocky today. 2 1/2" 9 shot. It is really hard to aim, even at 6 feet. I will get better with practice, but I think I will try to save my pennies for a laser sight. Smooth action! I have 4 shot on the way. I'm starting to think I could've handled a 12, though.

Oh, Inslee and Ferguson are now both Silent Jay and Silent Bob, lol.

Me figuring out how to aim it:

Can't figure out how to flip these photos, sorry...

Damn . . . you didn't leave much for the bugs to eat!

That looks like a fun gun. I bet the #4 shot will kick a little more, and if you wnat to try buckshot or slugs I bet it'll perk up even more!

I asked my mom if she wanted pumpkin pie...she refused. I do want to try buckshot and slugs. It's fun, and small, and with practice I'll get better aim. I need to get a strap for it for sure!

The shockwave in .410 makes a lot of sense. Excellent choice

At the last new years shoot some A-hole told me to shoot one in 12ga. with a 3" shell. Hard to tell if the nerve damage is from that or all the years of nail guns and saws but it I do know that it wasn't a pleasant experience

A laser sight sounds like a great idea too. It's literally a 'shoot from the hip' sort of thing

Mrs. Kitty, Im pretty sure you already figured it out after shooting your new baby but I cannot stress this enough....DO NOT FIRE THAT THUMPER WITH THE BUTT AGAINST YOUR STOMACH!!!!

I did this with a full house 12G and holy mother of god did it hurt, I didnt cry though something was in my eye...

That sounds like ouch! The 410 has no kick like a 12, but I was shown to place it against my side, on my belleh, between hip and chest, with arm locked in a 90 degree angle. I've seen vids of gals shooting it up higher against a boobie (not directly pointing at) so I may try that for better aim.

I finally got some #4 shot and still hardly any recoil! And I watched a youtube vid by an amazing shooter called Hickock and he eyesighted it (hoding the gun out at full reach left arm) and I tried it and it worked great! I'm going to try buck next. A 12GA would have been nice just because there are many many more accessories for it than the 410, but I do like this little gun. I've gotten a sling for it and in a few days a flashlight with mount should be here.
