Wow — nice rifles, Mark!

I’d be hard-pressed to recognize that last one as an Arisaka, lmao … but it sure is beautiful.

Thanks Steve...it was a project that turned out looking great, but the accuracy was disappointing- about 1 MOA no matter the bullet I tried. I have another Arisaka that is sporterized and chambered to the 6.5x57mm Mauser. Let's see what else I have in the photo albums...

[quote="3584ELK"]How did I miss this thread? What qualifies as "old"?

"There are some great examples of fine old bolt actions in here already. Not sure I can compete, but here are some of my humble submissions...

Husqvarna M-146 chambered to the 9.3x57mm cartridge

Remington 521-T"

I also have a Husqvarna sporter. Mine's a Model 648 in 8X57. I think our stocks might have been made from the same tree. Yours has the thumb slot on the receiver, but mine doesn't. However, mine has a a crest on the receiver and a military floorplate with locking screws.

I also have a 521-T that Dad bought for me when I was in high school in the 1960's. I just put a globe front sight on it to help sighting since my vision has gone to crap in the last few years. I have been to three optometrists but none have been able to get my right eye vision sharp enough to effectively use most open iron sights.

Very nice- and I am also suffering from aging eyes.

That Husky will put bullets into a clay target at 100 meters with its open sights and my poor eyes...credit goes to the rifle!

Here is a Ranger .22 (actually a Stevens 416) that I bought years ago and haven't shot for a long time. I took it out today and it did pretty well.

The rollercoaster sights were all replaced post war when the guns were confiscated and reworked by the Turks etc with a more classic sight. The complexity of them is ridiculous. Finding original, "in the white" matching Gew 98's is hard. I have 2 no import marked "bring backs", I have found over the last 5 years. This is the nicer. That sight alone has 3 numbered parts. Min range is 400 yds. Just shows what they thought WW1 would be about. It still is very accurate.

Nice. Yeah, I have a Turked G98 … I guess that explains why I’m not familiar with the rollercoaster sight.

Badly welded safety and barrel bands. Spring 1945 this was being done by unskilled workers, children etc.

Badly machined trigger guard and unfinished barrel and bolt. Yes the unfinished bolt does drag and slow you down.

Wow! Cool rifle and great descriptions and photos!

You didn’t use the term “last ditch” in your post. Was that intentional? (Serious question … I’m wondering if it has a meaning that doesn’t apply.)

My oversight it is very much last ditch, dying months of war. It still shoots very accurately. I'll post my Hiroshima last ditch next time. Yes it was still in a factory in hiroshima on that day...last few thousand produced.
