Here's my British 303 that my Father and Grandfather "sporterized" about 45 years ago. My dad shot a ton of Deer with this rifle. I shot my first Deer with it and I'm always impressed how fast it puts them down. For being a rifle this old it still holds solid groups with Iron Sights.

Remington 513T Matchmaster .22LR, 1st year of production 1940 Serial# 2***.
It has all the original sights and sling. The story was somebody purchased it for junior competition then stored it unshot for 60+ years.

Nice rifles, guys!

Totway1, do you shoot that 513T now? Or is still unfired for the past 60+ years?

I shoot all my guns :AR15firing:
I just love .22 target rifles and pistols but this one is definatly in the rotation.
I had to find new reticles for the front sight and I haven't tryed it out since but it's seem capable of some pretty accurate shooting.

Modern guns are so cool . . . and yet sometimes when I look back at the older ones, it seems that we haven't come very far in gun technology.

Just better materials. Most modern rifles still work like an old Mauser.

This is my "mystery" Marlin .22 *WTS-WTT* $125.
I'm always interested in old .22's and I've been practicing some refinishing and cold blueing. An SGN member posted this a couple weeks ago so I pm'd him and offered a Franklin. He agreed and we met at Northgate.
The rifle was frankly pretty beat up, lots of gouges and scrapes (it looked like it had been sliding around in the back of a pick-up), most of the blue was gone with just a small amount of pitting near the front sight base and the crown of the barrel but it had some interesting adjustable sights.

Sooo I got it home and took a look at the marking and did a little googling...
What I had was a Mossberg 46B(a) S,L,LR tube feed bolt action made from 1938-1946, and holds 30 .22 short or 20 LR in the tube magazine.
It was missing the front sight shroud for an interesting four post adjustable sight so I found one at Numrich. It has a crack in the recoil pad and none are available so I'm repairing that with epoxy.

I did a lot of sanding and wet sanding on the stock with a Tru-oil finish and had to cold blue most of the barrel in front of the stock. The adjustable sights were filled with crud and it took some scrubbing to make them adjustable again!

I've only had a chance to test fire it but everything seem to load and fire perfectly. I was a fun project on a cheap gun that turned out to be a good, accurate, comfortable shooter. :AR15firing:

I got five great deals at the gun show last weekend, and I've finally got them cleaned and photographed.

Let's start with a 1948 Turkish Mauser. This is my first Turkish Mauser and I don't know much about them, but a bit of internet research leads me to believe that this one is a reworked Gewehr 98, restamped and in a Turkish stock. If anyone has more info to share, I'd love to hear it. The caliber is 8mm Mauser.

I found quite a lot of cosmoline inside this sucker:

And here it is, finally clean:

Next is a 1942 Mosin Nagant M38 carbine in 7.62x54R from the Izhevsk armory. This carbine is counterbored, and it has an actual M38 stock (not beveled for an M44 bayonet) which is a nice find.

Third is a Finnish M39, also in 7.62x54R. This is built on a 1907 Izhevsk receiver. There is a crack in the upper handguard, but it's holding together just fine.

Next is a 1928 ex-Dragoon Mosin Nagant M91/30, of course in 7.62x54R. This is from the Tula arsenal.

And lastly, a 1923 ex-Dragoon Mosin Nagant M91/30. This is also in 7.62x54R, and it's from the Izhevsk arsenal.

Here are the top and bottom of the receiver tang. It looks to me like it says 1918, but I can't figure out what else the markings mean. Does anyone know?

Here's the underside of the rear sight, showing the gap that's indicative of an ex-Dragoon:

The date stamp on this one is interesting. The last digit looks like the "3" was stamped on top of something else, and the second-to-last digit looks like a 2 with . . . errr, something else on it too . . . ?

This was originally stamped 1922.

That's what I thought at first, too. But the top of the "2" is a closed loop, which looks odd to me.
