Looking at my red lines, you can see some of the remains of the original stamp. They are identical to the "2" beside it. Attachment: DateStamp1.jpg

Yeah, I can see the original 2 under the 3, but the full loop at the top of the 2's is what seemed weird. But I did some Googling, and it looks like that's the way they were stamped. In fact, here's another rifle with the same overstamp:

Here's a first for me . . . a Swiss rifle! This is a Swiss K31, in caliber 7.5 Swiss (aka 7.5x55). This rifle was built in 1943, and seems to be in GREAT condition although I haven't fired it yet. I'm in the process of rebuilding my reloading bench . . . gotta get that done so I can make some ammo for this thing.

Nice Steve! Arguably one the most accurate issue military rifles ever made. Used to get them from Big 5 for 99 bucks...

And . . . here are a couple of Spaniards, both in 7.62x51 caliber. First up is a Model 1916 Mauser, which was originally built in 7mm Mauser but later converted to 7.62x51 and used by the Spanish Guardia Civil. Check out the marking on the receiver, which is a crossed sword and fasces: An explanation of the markings from surplusrifleforum: Quote: . . . the sword, as typical, would stand for power, might, and strength. The fasces is a bundle of rods bound together around an ax with the blade sticking out. It dates from Roman times when magistrates carried it as a symbol of authority. Just in case there's any question about how your sight is set, they have marked it liberally: Next up is a Spanish FR-8 Mauser: The markings on the receiver are very faint; I think this was re-parkerized at some point: It says, "FABRICA DE ARMAS" with "LA CORUNA" at the bottom. The "gas tube" under the barrel is actually a small storage tube, and it is used to mount the bayonet (which I forgot to include in the pic, dammit).
