Finally got enough parts for my AR45 build to get started on some of the harder stuff. Mostly Kaw Valley Precision big parts, Strike Industries little parts, with a Guntec upper and New Frontier lower.

Upper was easy. Main concern was how to get enough torque on the proprietary barrel nut and the threads on the 6" Angstadt barrel clearing the handguard for the Osprey 45. Good with about a quarter inch to spare, perfect. Went with the 6" as there's nothing much gained past that velocity-wise (and trying to be subsonic anyway), but 4" is too short for any available handguard to leave the threads exposed. Bonus, it's already threaded .578x28 like a 1911 barrel.

I had to send back the Strike Industries (SI) AFG/handstop as it's too long with that little "step" at the rear of the handguard where I lose about an inch of flat surface. Going to try the smaller Odin Works one.

The SI no-latch charging handle is pretty trick. We'll see how it holds up.

The lower wasn't quite as easy, though New Frontier does use neat Allen key screws for the bolt catch and to retain the rear takedown pin spring. The SI anodized takedown pins are pretty but obviously not as tough as steel. I had to file down the rear detent a tad so it didn't carve a trench in the pin. As for the front, well...the upper was a tiny bit long on the lower, and I generally go with the rule that you don't mess with the lower, so I had to file out a bit of the takedown hole. It's still a very tight fit and that front pin got a bit beat up in the process.

The operation will take some getting use to. Bolt catch works fine as does the LRBHO on the rear of the magazine, but the bolt does go home when the mag is removed.

Waiting on the grip, retention pins, brace, and a couple other small bits before I decide on an optic.

Like my "workbench"?

sportsdad60, I'd bring it your way to check it out but there are some weird rules about taking cans across state lines.

It's fun with the muzzle device too, just not as much.

No, actually there aren't.

SBRs, yes. Cans, no.

EDIT - looks like it has not changed, I cannot find any mention of rule changes, so yeah suppressors are still ok to travel without special notification provided the state allows them.

Well, on the back of Form 5320.20, in the Instructions section, it says:

Quote:
a. A written request and prior authorization from ATF to transport interstate
or in foreign commerce any destructive device, machinegun, short-barreled rifle,
or short-barreled shotgun is required under the provisions of Section 922 (a)
(4), Title 18, U.S.C., and Section 478.28, Title 27, CFR.

No mention of silencers.
