I got a Navy Arms reproduction of a Colt Walker .44 in the mail today: It came with a holster and a spare cylinder, which is cool. If you're not familiar with these revolvers, they are MASSIVE. I have one already (not a Navy Arms, made by someone else), and it has a little problem where if you cock is quickly, the cylinder sometimes over-rotates a bit. Sadly . . . this one does the same thing. :( |

Heck yeah: When the price dropped to $160 shipped, I couldn't say no. That's a replica of an 1858 Remington in .44 caliber. It has adjustable sights, so maybe it's not a great replica, but what the hell. And no, that's not rust on the barrel. Just a bad lighting and sharpening job. |

You know it's almost muzzleloader season. |

Y'know, the gun hobby is fun . . . but it's also stressful, with politics and laws and all that crap. So screw it, I'm switching to a different hobby. How about old books? That sounds nice. Oh wait, here's a cool old book right here! Oh, even better . . . it's about the NRA! The perfect hobby transition piece. Let's take a look at the first page . . . . Well shit, that was a short read. Anyhoo . . . I just bought this today. It's a Colt 1849 Pocket Revolver, .31 caliber, 5-shot. It's the 1849 model, but per Colt's website this particular one was made in 1868. Obviously the finish is, well, tired . . . but mechanically it looks pretty good. The bore is good, the cylinder looks good, and it cocks and fires properly. |

Sinus211 wrote: I have 0 interest in bp guns Well, let me see if I can reinforce that opinion. I bought a 3-pack of black powder guns today for $300. Yeah, that's cheap, but these all need some help so there will be elbow grease involved before I get them shooting. First up, an Armi San Marco version of the 1847 Walker (that's the big mofo) and a Pietta version of the 1860 Army. Both of these are .44 caliber: There's only one nipple between the two of them , and obviously there's a lot of finish wear and some surface rust. The bores and cylinders look good except for some patches of surface rust. Then there's the Navy Arms repro of an 1863 Zouave, which is .58 caliber: This was made in 1960 per the receiver stamp. I think all of these will be just fine after some scrubbing, cold bluing, etc. Oh, and some nipples of course. But they sure are ugly at the moment! |

My second oldest firearm, a H. Aston M1842, this one made in 1849: And a Walker, just because! Cartridge gun, but still would have been BP Smith Model 1: Crappy cell phone shots is all I have on these guys, haven’t had time to do a proper job. Haven’t even got the chance to shoot either the Aston or the Walker. Bill R |
