Can you post a photo of your pistol? I'm blaming you for me wanting one...and subsequently buying one yesterday.

Thank you! Soon as I get it in my grubby big hands I will post pics.
Its a 98% 39-2, 1981 with box. Not as nice as Hk's find but I've always wanted one.

The history is what made me drawn to them. Originally designed in 1940 and the P-38 was the model used by S&W. It wasn't until 1955 that the commerial version of the 39 was avail to public.
The frame grip was ahead of it's time. Take a close look, CZ and Glock both use that design. It's ageless.

It was hoped it would be the 1911 killer to the military eyes, but they said "yaaaah, naaaah, we'll stick to big focking slugs traveling 800 fps"
To be fair, the 9mm ammo made back then was crap compared to today, that gave the 39 a bad name.

Here is the seller's photo of subject matter pistol

I do like them... however - There was nothing really positively innovative. I'm gonna hurt some feelings here. The grip angle is similar to the Browning which came before. SW missed a HUGE opportunity to make this a double stack. The capacity of the 59 is anemic at 8 rounds. The Hipower (which came before) holds 13... Gotta ask yourself why such piss-poor capacity in a 2 pound duty sized gun? The slide mounted decocker - not a fan. Not sure when the mag safety came in, but also don't like that feature. Early models had weak frames and other issues; The reason there are gen 2 and gen 3 guns is because of issues with earlier models. All in all, the SW are cool guns, very beautiful, and historically interesting but they suffer from several issues.

The 39 fits the hand very well. No argument that they're not the apogee of handgun development. They're probably a poor choice as the first and only handgun. But as the 12th handgun they do well

I had one in about 1978-1980 and foolishly sold it. Then this one came walking up at a gunshow 4 or 5 years ago. I took off the wood grips and put on wrap around pachmeyers, shoots like a dream! And funny thing is, it dates to around 1970

I had a nickel SW 59 with black plastic grips in the early 80's. 39 with the wood grips was always a better looking pistol.
