I have been on the hunt to add a couple SKS's in the $300ish range, and I stumbled across one at an unassuming Pawn Shop in Burien. Mixed in with the overpriced lever actions, $550 Taurus' and other overpriced guns I found this tucked away on the shelf. Numbers matching Norinco, perfect guts, and the stock is in fantastic shape. Just need one more....

Bunch of SKS fans over here. Just wish there were good solid ways to mount optics to these gems.

There are a couple pawn shops in the Spokane area full of Bubba'ed and TAPCOed SKSes for $400. This nearly unfired Yugo (by me or anyone else, late manufacture) cost me $450. I know, 25 years ago people would have been like, "so what"? But now it's damn hard to find an unmolested one.

Never thought there would be a time when SKSs and new budget AR15s would be selling for near the same price.

Sadly I am old enough to remember the days of sub $100 SKS. They got a very bad name when I was coming of age in the early 90s in Central WA. Those $75 SKSes became the "go-to" cheap hunting rifle for a lot of idiots, most of whom were old enough to skirt the hunter safety regs. Plenty of first and secondhand accounts of "recon by fire" i.e. shooting at rustling bushes with a 10 round semi. Guys hunting with FMJs and losing wounded game; yes I'm aware this can happen with any rifle but you're begging for it using milsurp ammo. The beat up ones shouldn't sell for more than $250-$300 but it's the "not gunna make 'em anymo" effect. Really nice guns should accrue value, that's the way it works. Some of you old timers will remember when all of these were bargain basement guns too:

Some of you old timers will remember when all of these were bargain basement guns too: If only you could have bought a warehouse full and sat on them... The lesson, men, is that TODAY you can get unlimited ARs for $400. And someday soon, on a forum like this, someone will say "I wish I had gotten all those $400 ARs..." Anyway, my first AR was a $1000 neutered Bushmaster with 1 ten round mag, fixed stock, and no bayo lug, during the AWB. Around that same time, my first SKSs were unissued Yugos for $150 with my C&R.
