Olydemon and I are headed down to Columbia county this AM for their (last Saturday, cash only) CPL renewal event.

I know benja455 is coming down with some friends as well (yes, he has friends).

Anybody else coming down today?

I need to get Oregon. In the meantime, I just avoid going there.

So, all in all it wasn't all that bad. Damon and I got an early jump and were shocked to see the line that long when we got there. It grew considerably before they opened the doors (30 min early). They have a pretty good system of making sure renewals are at one window and new applicants at another. All in all, we waited for about 90 minutes. When we were leaving Ben was still in line but the line had stopped growing. So if you came at noon, you would have walked right in.

If you come early, bring coffee and be prepared to wait a bit. Some people came prepared with chairs. If you come later you may be able to just walk-in, but when we were in line, we were listening of horror stories of people attempting to renew last month and the line was around the block the entire day.....

There is no walk-in day in May, so the next renewal time will be the in June, or you can make an appointment via their website for a weekday appointment (still a month plus out).

Were any kind words said to the SO staff for doing what they're doing?
Not many of the OR sheriffs are so accommodating.

The staff was nothing short of amazing. All females, all smiles, all chatty. I think almost all of us in line thanked all of them for them working on a Saturday to help us.

Any additional information such as do they renew during the week or???

I'd like to renew my privilege to defend myself if I have to go there.

How nice they allow me to do it in person at a full day of inconvenience....

There's no excuse for them to deny renewal by mail. I
