Applying for the Arizona CWP

Thu Apr 22, 2021 10:09 pm

Hey, guys. Taking a few minutes to document my steps and share my experiences in applying for the Arizona CWP. It's recognized by 37 states and is good for 5 years.

Process:

1/ Fill out the application: https://www.azdps.gov/sites/default/fil ... llable.pdf

2/ $60 Cashier's check or money order - I got mine from Walmart for a $1 fee.

3/ Submit two finger prints:

3a/ I ordered these FD-258 finger print cards for $8: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E9 ... UTF8&psc=1

3b/ I also ordered this finger print pad for $7: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0043 ... UTF8&psc=1

4/ Proof of weapons safety education. They accept a number of credentials, but what worked flawlessly for me was a photo copy of my Washington State Hunter Safety card.

5/ Photo copy of my Passport

6/ Mail in all of the above.

All said, I spent a little under $80, and, from start application submission to CWP-in-hand was about 2 weeks. Super fast.

WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot, thank you, I love that you took the time to document this for others!

For others in a similar situation, I already have WA, OR and UT. If I were to add AZ, here's what I would gain:
- Remove restrictions in AZ (don't know what those are).
- Add NM.

Man... are you reading my mind?

I have the AZ packet sitting on my desk (last 6 months)...
What the hell - seems pretty straight forward.

Happy to help!

As far as I understand, having the AZ CWP provides two primary benefits (when carrying in AZ):
1. Being able to carry in restaurants and bars that serve alcohol.
2. Bypass NICS (3 biz day waiting period)
